A great museum in my own back yard!! There is an authentic display of artifacts, as well as a quick little video showing the life and work of Benjamin Banneker... We also visited a small cabin out in the back, showing how he lived at that particular time.

Great place, friendly and informative staff. A little-known gem! Kid-friendly, too: our kids discovered the "new" game of pick-up-sticks here.

Benjamin Banneker is a local hero, who contributed to the development of science and even the construction of the city of Washington, DC. The fact that he was a free black man during the time of the birth of our nation is even more unusual and impressive. The museum is a great little gem. In under an hour, you can learn not only about this remarkable man, but also little-known facts about the lives of free blacks, who lived in the danger of an unjust time. The more you know, the more remarkable Benjamin Banneker's life will appear to you!Plus, the location is beautiful...located in a wooded area with hiking trails to extend your visit if you so desire.
