Sand Hill Cove As We Use To Call It Growing Up Here In Rhode Island...Always A Clean & Family Orientated Beach.....Salty Brine use to host his own show when I was a kid with his dog Jeff....Salty Brine was the backbone sort to speak of the state of Rhode Island.....Highly Recommend In every way....There's also the Block Island Ferry & some Whale Watching Boats at the harbor.....More To Do on the Island....

This is a small section of the larger state beach on Sand Hill Cove. If you need a larger parking lot, go down the road to the Wheeler State Beach, and you'll still be able to walk this long, sandy beach, starting at the other end. Other than the parking fee, there is no admission charge. The water is fairly calm here because of the breakwater, which makes it a good family beach. The water is calmer here and Wheeler than at Scarborough and other south-coast ocean beaches in the state. Some say it gets crowded, but just walk a little ways down and you'll have more room -- you'll be further away from the bathroom and snack bar pavilion, but you can have a lot of space to yourself. This beach is very near the harbor, so you can see the various fishing, pleasure craft, and ferries to Block Island go in and out. I know people pull their chairs right up to the breakwater to watch the boats. The pavilion has pretty clean bathrooms and changing areas, although the staff can have a hard time keeping up toward the end of a busy weekend day. There is a reasonably-priced snack bar, but the beach is a short walk to nearby seafood restaurants that have take-out windows.FYI: with a reservation, you can get a big-tire wheel chair for handicapped people, so people of all abilities can enjoy the beach. So -- there are many RI state beaches, each with its own personality. We like to come here for gentle waves, watching the action at the harbor, bathroom facilities, and a short walk to excellent clam cakes and fried clams.

Very small beach with nice clean pavilion. There is a small parking lot and limited street parking. If you are with someone with limited ability to walk onto the beach, this is a good choice, as it is small. The pavilion has bathrooms, showers, inexpensive snack bar, and decks overlooking the boats. It is popular for older adults and families with very young children. The surf is calm. There are several restaurants within walking distance.

Large waves, clean beach, soft sand, near eateries and Block Island Ferries. There is a large, loud windmill that could be distracting if you were too close.

A very nice beach - not much parking and very tight quarters. Roger Wheeler and Scarborough beaches are more spacious and inviting.

We had a beautiful day here for the beach. There was nice sun, the sand was soft and the waves were great (not to high for our 6 yr old but good enough to use the bogie board). It was pretty crowded but we managed to find a good spot. Had a great day. Even were lucky enough to find a parking spot within walking distance on the street so we saved the $20 fee.

There was a lot of people there and it was pretty packed around 1pm. Walking further down the beach we encountered a lot of private beaches where we couldn't sit. But Eventually we found a spot that was less crowded then the rest. There was not a lot of seaweed or other se debris so it was a pretty nice to swim around and not get all tangled in sea goo.

This is a nice beach, but there are no waves because of the breakwater. Also, parking is limited. However, it is really nice for watching boats coming in and out of harbor.

I think this is the best beach ever! Its great for families with kids and older people who just can't handle the waves! Can't wait to go back!

It's hard to avoid all of the smokers on this beach. It's difficult to enjoy the fresh air with all of the chain smokers that frequent this beach. I thought smoking was on the decline.

Free, easy to get to, clean, great place to watch the boats. Locals and travelers like this spot. Close to the restaurants.

PRO TIP: Get here at the beginning or tail end of the day for tons free four hour parking along the street. There are tons of parking lots for a $10 day fee, but it's always nice to spend an afternoon with free parking. So excited to find a nice, free swimming beach in my area. The water is calm, the sand fine and there are changing/shower facilities close. As Narragansett Town Beach attracts most of the young adult crowd, this is a great family beach. Lots of locals make their way to this hidden treasure just minutes away from great food and other beaches, if this is not your cup of tea.

Great place to swim and enjoy the waves in season. Great place for walking year round. Fee for parking in season, free the remainder of the year. Facilities for changing for swimming.

Salty Brine State Beach is wonderful for young children and those who like the water without the waves. Situated next to the Salt Pond channel, one can watch the Block Island ferry and numerous pleasure and fishing boats coming and going. The snack bar is close by as well as clean shower stalls and changing rooms. Walk to George's restaurant of Champlain's restaurant if a bigger meal is what you want. Nana's Ice Cream is right nearby for a quick treat. Parking is limited so either arrive early or go later in the afternoon.

This is a fun place to hang on the beach by the Block Island Ferry, enjoy some seafood and laugh about 'Salty Brine' and 'no school Fosta Glosta'!
