If you want to get out of the hustle & bustle of Traverse City, take the short drive to Mission Point. You will pass many cherry farms and take in some great scenery. You will arrive at Mission Bay, where you will be able to visit the Lighthouse that overlooks the bay. It is quite beautiful. Don't miss it!

Although the light house was closed the trails were clear and we were able to hike without sinking into the snow. The trails are wonderful and it was protected from the wind. Spent a couple of hours exploring the woods. Well worth the trek up there.

Cute Little Historic Lighthouse. Off Season, it was a fun and scenic drive to the tip of the Old Mission Peninsula along it's west shoreline. Tip: Head back to Traverse City for your Meals, as there are SO MANY Tasty Choices there. Jolly Pumpkin on Old Mission Peninsula does NOT have their LAKESIDE dining room Open during the Off Season. So, no Sunsets over Water, or Water Views during the day. :-( See my review of the Jolly Pumpkin.

Nobody is around in the winter. There is a lot of great lake history to the old light house. The gift shop it seems is closed in the winter months (Off season) But it is worth a the short trip to the point in the off season. You can see were all the grapes come from for the great TC wine.

I honeymooned here and then revisited in the summer and again for my anniversary. The drive to the lighthouse is breathtaking as well as the view from the point. Always wish I would remember to take the time (and the gear if necessary) to hike the trails. Great way to fill 2 hours of time and enjoy the great outdoors.

The drive to the Point was very scenic and not far from Traverse City, MI. The "Light" is open for tourists during certain times during the winter. So you might want to check their hours before making the drive. The Lighthouse is NOT operational but very scenic. The views from the top of the lighthouse, even in winter, were awesome. This house is very photogenic. The guide, on duty while we were there, was very informative. I can't believe what the lighthouse keeper had to do to maintain the "light". From cutting the wick and filling up the fuel tank to keep it burning. The steps to the light are so steep you have to come down them facing the steps! This lighthouse would make a good visit during the summer.

Beautiful drive to get to the lighthouse. Offers easy hikes around the lighthouse for views of Lake Michigan. There's a few things to do and see while you visit. Beautiful all year round.

Visits over different years will give you an idea of how much the lake level rises and falls over time. The lighthouse is open for a free visit too.

I always make the drive to the lighthouse with out of town friends and family who are here for a visit. The lighthouse is small and I will say that I have never paid the fee to tour the building, but the downstairs is open for no charge with a gift shop. If nothing else, the drive up to the lighthouse is always beautiful and the lighthouse makes for some great photos. If you happen to find yourself there on a day when it is not the middle of the winter, it is nice to walk out on the beach to enjoy some great views of the bay.

This is a very little lighthouse. A tour was available, but we just poked our heads in. Very small, tight space inside. The grounds were nice...perhaps if the weather had been a bit nicer we would have spent a little more time, but it really didn't seem worth it.

Even in a soft rain on a fall day this is a visit that will lower your pulse and calm you within. A beach that doesn't see swimmers-just seabirds taking a rest. Look one way to the right and there is Michigan stretching North towards Canada. To your left there is the other Michigan peninsula that stretches North to Northport. You are on Mission Peninsula, home to orchards and wineries. Home to magnificent views of both sides of the peninsula as you drive. When the road runs out going North you are at the lighthouse which has stood here for over 100 years. The light may not be on and there's nobody home except the sweet lady who runs the lighthouse gift shop and museum. It is worth the measly $4 to go inside and explore. See how the light keeper and his wife lived in simpler times. Climb up the steep stairs to the top where the light used to be and marvel at the 360 degree view of the beautiful woods and shore.Look for the wooden plaque that shows where you are on the globe- the 45th Parallel-halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. There's a calm and a quiet here as you stand on the beach. The 21st Century world is left far behind. Breath the lake air. Let the soft rain fall on you and refresh you for a moment. Get back in your car and take the scenic route along the Lake Michigan back to Traverse City and the 21st Century.
