traverse city state park

We stayed here before our daughters wedding. I picked a site in the back by the bike trail, it was nice. A lot of planes flying, but ok for a cheap place to stay. They have very nice bathrooms and showers. Everyone was very nice.

Great stay. Best location for Traverse city area access. Don't go if you need quiet to sleep.Very loud planes in the morning and constant highway sounds.

Traverse City State Park is one of the nicest in Michigan. Located on US 31 for easy access, has walking bridge to public beaches, located in an area with attractions such as zip line, go karts, and miniature golf, within walking distance. Also located on Tart trail, which will take almost anywhere around the bay waking or biking

Let me preface this, we visited this park with a 30 foot 5th wheel, and with the view that we weren't really camping, but using the park for a "cheap hotel" to visit the area. Yikes!! we are from Michigan but do our camping in Ontario to avoid places such as this. Can anyone really consider this an outdoor experience? We were greeted on a Friday afternoon with a consistent roar of airplane traffic from the local airport. I don't know and don't want to know, how they could possibly fit everyone into the minuscule space they allotted for a "camping experience". Granted we had minimal expectations, but we just don't "get it" that anyone would find this an enjoyable experience. I would consider this park for a good location to experience the beautiful Traverse City area and trail that was next to the park. If you want to experience the nature and beauty of Michigan, look elsewhere. Sorry to say I can't help you with that search, except to say if you want to relax and enjoy nature, visit the Pinery Provincial Park in Ontario.

Nice State Park, but I prefer seeing Lake MI from free sights, such as those in Ludington, St. Joseph or Manistee. Nothing particularly special about the beach area to encourage me to return.

I grew up camping here and love it just as much now as I did then. Our family camped here for about a week over Labor Day and it is our second time staying there in just over a year. We travel fairly frequently but truly love this area of Michigan. The campground is clean and has a nice layout, with lots of trees. It sits across the road from the East Bay beach, with a pedestrian bridge leading you from the campground to the beach entrance. Our daughter (2 1/2) loved crossing over the cars, waving and getting them to honk. The beach is great, has a nice playground and less boat traffic than the West Bay. Nice sand and VERY clear water. Ducks are always around, hoping for a free morsel. The campground is on the TART trail, which we utilized almost daily for fun, access to restaurants and pubs, activities like Pirates Cove and more. The staff at the campground are always actively working and very friendly. They had a service project going on while we were there, which brought in kids from the community to help improve the playground areas. On Labor Day, the staff hosted a "Bridge Walk" where campers walked across the bridge at 9am and then were able to partake in coffee, juice, and a large variety of breakfast pastries that the staff had set out for us. They also provided animal identification maps, stickers, coloring books and other fun gifts for the children. It was a fun way to start the day. The lots are spacious compared to many other campgrounds and again, you just can't beat the location. It's a hard place to leave. The only slight negatives are two of the bathroom buildings are older and a bit outdated, which is mostly fine but in the showers the shower heads are really low, making it difficult to shower in. (It's higher in the handicap accessible ones). I'm not that tall either- 5'6"- and the shower head was still lower than my head. My husband, who is 6'1" had a much harder time in the small showers. The building farthest east, which is the newest, has corrected this issue. It also is along the main road, so you do hear traffic, though you forget about it almost immediately. It didn't disturb our stay but is something to consider. I highly recommend this park.

The camp site was nice with 2 rustic bathrooms and a modern bathroom. The park itself was very quiet and well taken care of. If you love sand in your tent or camper you will love it here! Also there is an ABUNDANCE of squirrels. The only down side to this Park is that it very very close to the main road which it very busy. Kind of takes away from the whole camping experience when you hear semis and loud cars driving past at 45+ MPH. It is pet friendly but I would be nervous about the busy road being so close. Also it right next door to an Air Port which also is very loud with planes landing a taking off. Pros-Lots of trees, quiet, and clean, gives you the feeling of being in the wilderness.Cons- Too close to a main road and air port.

Right in the middle of the scenic route of Grand Traverse Bay. Close enough to ride a bicycle or to walk to downtown for shopping. Though Traverse City is busy you would never know it while inside this park. Trees are tall and every sight is shaded.

Only used the beach. I enjoyed this State Park beach. Very clean, nice sand and parking area.You need the State of Michigan access pass on your registration to enter.

We were just wasting time waiting for our rooms to be done and we stopped at the beach. It was a nice beach and park, but what impressed me most was the paved path for wheelchairs to get right down to the water!!! Nice job Traverse City!!!

We really loved camping under the huge pine trees that surrounded our campsite. The campground has a walking bridge that goes up over the highway, so there is easy access to the large beach that is part of the state park. The campground was nearly full, but seemed calm and reasonably quiet.

Recently we camped two nights at Traverse City State Park. The lark is two miles from the city limits. So while you are close to Lake Michigan, the beach, and TC, expect to hear the sounds of cars along the highway and airplanes soaring overhead. The campsites are close together, the bathrooms range from sandy/old to modern/clean.

We camped here for a couple of days over Fourth of July. The campground is huge! Beautiful, clean new bathrooms and close to a bike path that winds its way into downtown. The sites are a good size. I would totally camp here again.

We stayed one night but looked for another place to park the RV. Long term campers and uneven park spots were not appealing.
