good hops brewing

We had one of their beers at a local restaurant & had to get more so we stopped by the brewery. They offer beer on tap by the pint or in 32 oz grumblers that you can refill. SUPER friendly & helpful staff made our visit enjoyable. We'll definitely return for refills

OK, you are visiting the beach and sooner or later you are going to need a beer. A real beer. If you happen to be in Carolina Beach, then you need to visit Good Hops Brewing. It's a bit off the main drag, but then again Carolina Beach is small enough that everything is close by. We recently had a chance to visit the folks at Good Hops and we were really pleasantly surprised. For a small operation that just opened in the last few months, they have some top shelf beers. I'm personally an IPA fan and theirs was really good, but they had a really nice lineup of about 8 or so taps and I did not get to try them all. Speaking of which, they offer tastes and samplers, which I would encourage. They also offer takeout "grumblers" as well. The other thing we found was that the hosts were extremely friendly, true brewmasters, and downright hostpitable. To us it appeared most of their customer base is local. We made some friends there who suggested several other places, all of which we will certainly try. Bottom line is, sooner or later you're going to need that beer and if you are in Carolina Beach or Kure Beach, this is the place to get it. We'll certainly be back on our next visit. Had wanted to visit since they opened this past summer, but hadn't gotten there. Had one of their beers at dinner this past week and had to go. Definitely worth the visit. Not fancy, but nice bar and tables, where you are encouraged to bring in food and eat while you taste the beer. And the beer is very good. Sampled their flight and each beer was at least good, a couple very good. Their Stout and Scottish Ale were my favorites. And they experiment with some interesting combinations, this week included one from sweet potatoes with cinnamon. Brought three grumblers home (won't tell you what that is, you will have to go).

This place is perfect for a hang out with friends to try some yummy beers. They are obviously confident in the quality of their beers because they offer other NC beers on tap as well. I love that! The place is spotlessly clean and all the windows make it bright and cheery. The bar staff was knowledgeable (thank goodness) and very friendly. We all ordered flights of the beers and not one of them was bad! I'm a fickle beer taster but they were so yummy! My husband was shocked that he didn't get to take any of my tasters because I wanted to finish them all! I love that they have local treats in the cooler that you can buy and snack on while you are drinking their great beers. The dog. OMG Prada is such a sweet dog. I hope she is paid well enough for being such good and sweet entertainment. When you think 'bar' you don't think relaxing but this place was just that. No pressure, just good people and good beer. I can't wait to go back. If you go to Wilmington / Carolina Beach, you really have to make this a destination. I just need a hotel close enough so I can walk! We didn't take the tour but are scheduling to return just for that!

Great Beer (including guest beer), nice sampler, tasty Jalapeño pepper big soft pretzels, comfortable seating and atmosphere. Would have given 5 star if they had enough help to serve everyone on a Saturday afternoon. Worth a stop to get a buzz on!
