Old Town Auburn is amazing!!!It's beautiful, historic, convenient.....There is always some event going on, it seems.Visit the courthouse/museum. Pose for a selfie in the gold miner statue's pan. Enjoy a meal and a stroll. Bring your camera!!!

Gold was discovered in Auburn in 1848, just after the discovery in Coloma, a short distance away, that started the historic gold rush of 1849 and beyond.Old Town Auburn is where it all began and you can enjoy a good meal and brew at the Auburn Ale House before exploring the area. Sites to see include the old Fire House (a most unique structure) and the magnificent Historic Courthouse high on the hill overlooking Old Town. Check out the Placer County Museum inside the Courthouse.Auburn was also one of the main stops along the way in building the Transcontinental Railroad when it arrived in 1865. Another major site is the nearby Forresthill Bridge, which is one of the tallest bridges in the U.S., at over 700 ft. overlooking the confluence of the American River North and Middle forks. You may recognize the bridge from the opening scene from the movie XXX. Situated in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it's an easy off/on from I-80, about a block away......stop here and enjoy some history.

Old Town Auburn and its adjacent areas are fun to visit. The old court house museum, shopping in gold rush buildings, and plenty of eateries. Good wine shops and a great beer pub nearby. Great place to stop on your way to the Sierras.

Auburn is a great stopping off place for people traveling from the Bay Area up to the Sierras. The old town has a number of buildings dating back to the gold rush days, including a firehouse, post office and various shops. Today, the old town has a number of galleries, restaurants and bars.Well worth a visit, and a tourist can easily spend a couple of hours browsing around the old town.

But with nice freshness! New places are opening up all the time. The Ale House has the best brewfood I have ever eaten. The beer is top-notch too. It can get loud in there...and speaking of loud...the ambiance of this entire Auburn area can be ruined by the LOUD roaring Harleys that can be in very close proximity to the shops and walking traffic, not just in Old Town..but nearby Downtown also... Would be so much nicer if they would have some respect. The shops, as others have written are charming.

We detoured on our way back from Tahoe. It was a cute little town. A couple of really adorable shops. Saw the the old fire station.

I was in California to see my Girl and when friends knew I was their they said I should stop by their old stomping grounds. So, we had a free afternoon and off we went. Drove into the area and turned a corner... Found and Ale House... Enough reason for me to stop. Had great food and drink at the Auburn Ale House. After that we went and checked out the area and shops. It was very nice. There are a lot of very charming things to see. I like to shop (Shhh Don't tell anyone) so the boutiques were very nice. It's worth the trip - A great place to stop and stretch your legs

Old Town Auburn is an easily walkable charming place with lots of neat little stores (take a look in at the used saddle store!) and scads of places to feed your face. We liked it a lot and will definitely go back.

A charming historical town. Many antique and gift shops. We had lunch at Brookside which was excellent.

My wife and I go to Old Town Auburn on a regular basis, dining there at least 3-4 times per week for either lunch or dinner. My favorite place to dine is Bootleggers. Good food, lots of specials, good wine/beer selection. No hard liquor here. Service is also very good. The Auburn Ale House is also quite nice. It is the spot most often frequented by the locals. Again very good food. Sometimes the service is lacking but that is due more to the size of the crowd rather than lack of effort. They do brew their own beer here and while I am more of a wine person my beer drinking friends tell me that it is pretty good. Full bar available here. The California Club is Auburn's version of a dive bar. It is clean and respectable but can get rowdy on weekend nights. Carpe Vino is a premier wine bar and restaurant. Impeccable food and service, but you certainly do pay for it. Old Town Pizza is a great family place. While not up to the standards of New York pizza they do provide a good, tasty pizza. Sip wine bar is very nice. They serve a number of the upper end locally made wines and it is a very nice atmosphere. Awful Annie's makes a great lunch and breakfast, but again can get very crowded at times. However it is worth it if you are willing to wait to get in. There are plenty of nice stores, jewelry, antiques, etc. to browse in along with a number of historical buildings to view. The biggest problem is lack of sufficient parking. Go to the parking lot across from the court house and expect to walk a little.

This is an absolutely adorable down! Very peaceful, very quaint, and I heard the movie Phenomenon was filmed here! Fabulous courthouse, cute place to walk around. I like it!

Auburn is a nice little place to stroll around. There are many historic buildings and sites because of it's former status as a gold rush town. It's been kept up really nicely, is landscaped and pretty. Very quaint, and utterly American.

Would like to spend more time exploring here. Very quaint. Court House is sometihing to see!The little towns off Hwy 80 and Hwy 49 are the definition of early California at it's best.

If you like to shop in an old timey area, there are enough to feed your shopping frenzy. The area is small but charming. I love looking around Loads of cool stuff.

That is Auburn in a Nutshell. Friendly people, Family owned Eateries . Best Breakfast & Lunch is Awful Annie's. Shops to browse through. Great prices no pushy salesmen. Free tours at the Court House, Framers Market on Saturdays. Dinner I suggest Auburn Ale House, Bootleggers. Carpe Vino Wine Bar. Auburn has events all through the year.
