We just camped here for 10 days. On the very first checkin in the office, something of great value to us was stolen. No other customers were in the room at the same time. We asked the staff to return the item back to us and were told it wasn't found. On top of everything else, the park ranger harrassed us almost every day after the incident in the office. He found some bogus things to complain about or found it amusing to flash his gun around. His constant presence and drivebyes made everyone very uncomfortable. Extremely unprofessional! We came here for Mardi Gras for the 10th year and noticed a much bigger crowd this year than prior years. The so called "free" laundry facilities wasn't free at all, because the machines are so old and not working at all. We had to take our laundry to a local laundromat. The showers are nice and new. However, there is only one bathhouse for tons of campsites. In the morning the entire campground has a foul smell in the air. We assumed it's from the water management plant, that's on the premises. It was so strong of an odor that we couldn't sit outside. The staff was constantly driving around in their little golf carts, but never seem to do anything. The gate was only once locked at night time with an average and easy to break Masterlock. All other nights, the front desk simply left the electric barriers open and anyone could simply drive in without being noticed. This is our third time camping at this park for Mardi Gras and it was our last. We can not recommend it as a safe place to stay.We will never come back.

Got locked out of the campground and slept in my car!! Hotels in the area were $200 and up.I made reservations online (big mistake). Pulled in after office hours, around 6pm, everybody was nestled in their RVs while my friend and I easily located our spot for our tent. A piece of paper hung from our campsite sign. It was just a registration paper. A worker passed by to tell us to fill out and check in the morning, then he left without any other instructions. My friend and I set up camp then headed out of the park via car. We got back at 1am to locked gates!!!! We had found an alternate entry but there was a second set of locked gates!!! We parked the car and walked the 20 minutes to get to our site from the gate. We hoped to find someone still awake that could explain the locked gates. Nobody. We didn't want to wake anyone up so we headed back out at 3am and slept in the car, for fear it might get towed. At 545am we were awaken by the other person patiently waiting-just like us got locked out. That's right folks-it wasn't just us!! We went into the campground and slept until 9am then headed to the front desk hoping for an explanation and reimbursement. They explained the lock has a combo (changed weekly) and when you check in they give it to you. If you don't check in then you don't get the combo. After explaining our situation they said it was OUR fault for not calling during business hours to get the lock combo. I explained how was I supposed to know. It doesn't say anything about this on the website or tripadvisor or yelp reviews. We called all numbers for help with no answer and we even had a policeman visit to strategize (he wasn't any help). I ask that they put more info on the website and they explained it was a bigger security issue and that they wouldn't. If you decide to stay here it's beautiful but ABSOLUTELY make sure to take initiative and get that combo!!!!!!!!!! They close the gates at 9pm.

This is our 2nd time camping in our fifth wheel at the park & won't be our last. The camping fee of $20 per nite + $6.00 reservation fee is quite reasonable for the value. The roads in the park are paved & sites are paved, very spacious, immaculately maintained and FREE laundry facilities adjacent to the well designed playgrounds. Plan accordingly for both times we camped, of the 2 washers and dryers, only one was working. The huge picnic area offers birdwatchers ideal opportunity to see wood ducks, egrets, herons, countless white ibis, yellow bellied sapsucker and more. It's a 25 minute ride (non rush hour) to visit downtown New Orleans & parking late morning was easily accessible costing $18 for 4 hours.

wonderful location, beautiful surroundings, quiet, clean, good camp sites. Loved the fact you could drive to Algiers Point (15 min.), park your car and take a 5 min. ferry ride to the French Quarter.

We came to New Orleans for the Carnival season and are glad we chose Bayou Segnette as our home away from home. This park is easy to find and a short 15 minute drive to the French Quarter. Upon arrival we met two girls in the welcome station that told us all about the park, where our site was, where the after hours entrance was and how to use this entrance, what the facility had to offer and other assorted pieces of information. The camping section was a little drive away and the 15 mph speed limit made it seem further. When we turned into the camping area we saw the dump station on our left as we drove in and lot #1, our lot, the first lot on the right. My brother -in-law had the next lot to us and the shower/rest room/laundry was across the street and down about two sites. There was also a playground at the comfort station, a swimming pool and a wave pool. The park was well maintained and workers were constantly in the area keeping it neat and clean. There was also a State Park Police cruiser that circled the park about every half hour. This park was spotless and very safe.The only problem we had was the mosquitoes at night. We used some repellant and that seemed to solve the problem. We will definately use Bayou Segnette should we come back to New Orleans.

The location is great for the price, only about a 15 minute drive from the French Quarter and centrally located to any kind of stores you would need. However I did find the staff a little difficult and unreliable at times. One lady that worked the counter was extremely unwilling to help and seemed like she needed more training. But two of the ladies were very helpful and knew what they were doing. One man cleaning the bathroom propped the door wide open while my husband was showering, my husband shut the door (it was 45 degrees out) and he propped it open again, instead of waiting 5 minutes for him to finish up and then debated with him why he was doing it. Also the gates were not on schedule the way it was informed. At one point both the front and back gates were both locked and there is no phone number to call in case.

We have camped here for more than 20 years now.Fact is we are presently camping and after seeing recent false review I felt the need to assure campers that this park is tops very safe super clean and family oriented. The restrooms and free laundry sparkle.Whoever posted the false review has to be truly delusional this coming from a local tour guide and regular at bayou signette

It's less than 30 minutes from downtown, but a lovely campground. Now has THREE camp hosts, but the place is spotless. Bathrooms & showers & laundry. Critters are in the bushes, so don't leave any food out. It's off the highway, so you can get a good night's sleep. OH, and get some fresh seafood just outside the entrance at the little stands. Best shrimp to be found for only $4.25/lb.!

Bayou Segnette State Park campground is a modern facility campground that features large paved, level sites with water, 50/30amp electric service, wifi, and large sites for enjoying the great outdoors. Very clean restrooms & showers and a very nice playground for the kids. Well off the road so it's hard to believe that you are sooooo close to every thing in New Orleans and shopping to get basic needs. State park has a wave pool, picnic grounds, boat launch and slip and has many events throughout the year for the kiddies to enjoy. Sweet place! Go out to see the stars, eat some s'mores, at the campfire and enjoy a great night out camping at the Bayou!

Nice camping so near the Big Easy. Large sites, clean restrooms, free wi-fi and laundry. Even a Ranger who walks around the camping area offering advice about surrounding area while providing a naturalist's perspective. Only downside is that in early October the pools are closed. It's still quite "summer" in New Orleans in all of October and most of November. If you camp and don't have transportation (i.e., a car/truck) getting to the downtown area is a tad difficult. But this state park is an excellent choice for those who long for a bayou experience with access to an urban area.

This is a very good campground. The lots are level, the roads are wide, and it's easy to park. The restrooms and showers were very clean. Showers and laundry are free to campers. There is a nice playground for children and the area is shady. It is close to New Orleans and very easy to find. Because it is off a main road, there is plenty of shopping near-by.We only stayed here for one night in our RV, so we weren't able to take advantage of all the other wonderful things this state park has to offer visitors. The only downside was that if you tried to make a reservation in advance, they require a two night stay. Since we only needed to stay one night, we had to just show up, but there were plenty of spots available, since it was off-season.Definitely give this campground a try!

We stayed in campsite #61 over Labor Day weekend. My husband, three-year-old son and I had a really fun time. It was a clean park with friendly staff who kept daily maintenance. The bathrooms were clean and air-conditioned. Campers are offered free-laundry facilities and warm showers. Water and electricity on each site. We took the swamp tour behind the campsites and were fascinated to find out how 'on the swamp' we actually were. The little bridge that connected our site to the bathrooms and play area was fun to walk however, be cautious that in the early morning hours because it is slippery! Great place to take the family! Lightening bugs, armadillos, crawfish, love bugs, frogs, gators, dragonfies...you name it, we saw it!

Came here for a little bit of a nature respite while in town for work. $2 daily entrance fee if you're not camping. Enjoyed the scenery and saw a fair share of fauna. Looks like it would be a pretty good spot if you wanted to camp as well. Very nice grounds, well maintained.

Great quiet place for families and kids. Easy to get in and out of. Decent sites (not that private in general, but there are some). Nice playground. Well kept.Slow Wifi. Be careful with the double sites - they are really tight and likely don't suit very many travellers. Also the local area has some OK things nearby like services (grocery, WeGeaux Cafe, fast food, etc.) but not much in the way of attractions. To visit NOLA we tended to drive to the Algiers Ferry and leave the car on the south side of the river.

If you have looked at any of my other Louisiana reviews (Tickfaw, Poverty Point State Parks), you will be familiar with the rating scale I use. Bayou Segenette comes in at 8.125. I am adding half a point for free laundry facilities and general cleanliness. The final rating is 8.625. This is just short of earning a 5-circle Tripadvisor rating. If they had on site sewers they would have make it.The park is across the Mississippi River from the New Orleans metro area. The new lane additions to the old Hugh Long Bridge makes the access very easy. If you are visiting the French Quarter and river area this is an ideal place to stay and the cost is very reasonable. This is a large campground with 100 sites. We stayed in site # 9 adjacent to one of the two shower houses. They really could use 2 more shower houses. The walking access to them from the backside of the two loops is a good distance. The two boardwalks that cut through the swampy area to the shower houses are very dark even in the daytime due to overhanging foliage. The 30-amp power at our site could not handle the A/C and Microwave. We have only had this problem once before in Georgia a couple of years back. They change out the breaker but it didn’t help. To solve the problem, we purchase a 50-amp to 30-amp cable converter and plugged into the 50-amp receptacle. The Wi-Fi antennas are located a several locations in the campground including site 9. The Wi-Fi is very slow at best. It is good enough to check e-mail but not much else. Both over-the-air and satellite TV reception are good through out the park. We stayed here for 5 nights in June 2014 in a 30ft. TT. There were a lot of birds, rabbits, and one snake.
