Saturday is the day to visit ... after you go to Fred's in Mamou (look it up) EARLY on Saturday morning, you MUST stop at Marc Savoy's on your way to a late lunch at Prejean's (Lafayette ... look it up too). Do just a little research to learn what an amazing man Marc actually is. There will be quite a collection of folks playing in the band. Sometimes a delightful young boy will be playing the piano ... you will not even notice he is blind! Read the other reviews too ... you will not be disappointed in this Saturday of REAL CAJUN CULTURE and fun too.

We got there but the store was closed that day. We took some pictures just for us. Saw a turtle and a snake in the ditch in front of the store. It would have been a good visit to see Marc Savoy. We will go back the next time we are down.

Just go down that road till it looks like a wreck happened and cars are parked everywhere, That's Marc Savoy's Music Shop. If you want Real Cajun, not plastic Cajun, this is the STOP. Boudin, coffee, donuts, and lots of great culture with music. We walked in the the room was filled with music. Across the front of the room was about 10 people who had instruments playing and jamming. The 10 people playing probably were from 12 years old to maybe 85 or older. The Savoy Family is Cajun. This happens every Saturday morning. I have been twice. It is really a learning experience. Makes me smile.

We were there for a jam session on the Saturday before Mardi Gras. The "band" had accordian, 10 or 12 fiddlers, many guitars, a dulcimer, triangles, spoons, and Marc Savoy's vocals. If it could be any better, it's hard to know how it would happen. This was the Cajun equivalent of a YoYo Ma concert! Worth the 800 mile drive we took to hear it...

On Saturday mornings, the shop fills with local Cajun musicians, including members of the Savoy family. We heard old-time fiddle, banjo, piano and (even) triangle players. There were spectators of all ages, mostly from western Louisiana. No charge, but you'll probably be inspired to buy a Savoy CD. The warm welcome here is quite genuine. While there look at the custom-made accordians. We stayed for three hours.
