This is a great place to vacation. The rooms are not fancy but adequate, the food is good, the atmosphere is fun and the area is beautiful. Added bonus - close by are their stables where you can take a carriage ride and the Absaroka Dog Sled Treks Company is on the property where you can book a dog sled trek. That was a blast. Chico also has a nice conference center where our Tauck group had a meal and videos. Their coffee is great - we brought some home and wished we had brought several packages instead of just one. I'll mail order some more when we run out. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We loved the soak in the hot spring pool, even though it was very cold getting out in below freezing weather. Fun place.

I stayed at Chico Springs Resort for one night as part of a Yellowstone tour that ended at this lodge. At first impression the resort appears to have a quaint old west flair. That is until you start looking around and see the place for what it is: a glorified motel, not a resort. Where do I start? The water is contaminated and has a light sulfur scent. There are signs everywhere indicating you cannot drink it and you cannot use it to brush your teeth. On the bright side, they provide bottled water in the room and they have a large cooler for refilling. The room: old, outdated, worse decorating taste than my great grandmother and she lived in the late 1800's. The carpet: dirty and needed a serious vacuuming job. I know because I walked barefoot! The bathroom: small and old school but clean. The "hot springs" were the scariest part...there are two man-made pools, a small one at 105 degrees, and a larger one at about 95. Lots of little kids everywhere, and you know what they do in the warm pools. To reach the pools you walk in through a wet carpet and into a concrete/cemented area that looked run down. No bath robes or towels, no amenities and no drink service. Overall, this is the farthest thing from a resort.I simply cannot understand how people can give this place a good review. The only redeeming quality was the food. Both dinner and breakfast were surprisingly good. That's the only reason I did not give it one star.Never again!

My husband and I stayed at Chico for three days and two nights. The lodging was very nice with a rustic feel. We actually appreciated that the room did not have a television. Only "complaint" about the room itself was that the comforter was clearly outdated and very scratchy (but not a big deal, really). The biggest issue I had involved their housekeeping "policy." On our second day there, we went to soak in the pool. When we arrived back to our room, our door was wide open with all of our trip's possessions just sitting out for anyone who walked by to see. It then dawned on me that the resort did not give guests a "Do Not Disturb" option to hang on their door. My husband and I both agreed that we had assumed that since we were checked in, housekeeping had no reason to come in. I strongly suggest the management give guests the option to refuse housekeeping during their stay. It made me feel very uneasy that anyone walking by could've seen right into room as the door was wide open, and really, for who knows how long. Since the room doors are locked with just a key, entering the room without the key surely would not prove difficult for someone. The restaurant was good, the appetizers are definitely the stars of the show on the menu. For the price, I really thought they'd take a bit more care in the plating and presentation of the food. Also, the entree menu did not mention specific sides, and my duck came out piled on top a huge pile of rice- which I do not eat. The highlight of our stay was definitely the pool. It was perfect. We soaked as much as we possibly could and the temperatures of both pools were amazing.I would recommend a stay at Chico (and a hand, add "Do Not Disturb" sign for your door.

The pool was hot and the restaurant was great. There are many geyser springs in the Yellowstone area, but few restaurants that measure up to the one at Chico. The attention to the meal by the chef was extraordinary as our steaks were returned to the kitchen by wait staff to make sure they were cooked as expected. ( They were.) Attention to detail is a trademark of the restaurant at Chico The trip to Pray is worth while for the great meals serrved in the restaurant. If one wants to use the pool., the Warren wing of the hotel is the newest attached part of the facility and allowed easy indoor access to the pool area.Much nicer returning to your room from the pool without going outside.

I am not a huge "hot springs fan", but do visit them when the opportunity arises. I found this one to be a bit better than average for the water, but charmingly unique and that makes it special. Of the two man created pools, the hotter one is under cover and has a bar window just next to the pool. I could dream of being there during a snow storm sipping on a hot toddy. Somehow I expected (as with other spa resorts) that there would be a soft comfy robe hanging in my room to wear over and back, but no! So whether you are staying at the resort or just coming for a dip, I recommend bringing a spa robe and some flip flops!

I've been visiting Chico since I was a young woman. Love the horseback riding, dogsledding and the restaurants. There is a sign that says "Welcome home" and that's how I feel when I come.

It’s been a good 15 years since we’ve stayed at Chico, and boy, has the place changed. And all for the better – if that were possible. We loved that the lobby still looked the same, and we loved our old, tiny, creaky, historic room – including the flocked velvet wallpaper, the antique-y furniture, the covered electric wires on the ceiling and wall, and the fact that the rooms were still opened with real keys, rather than swipe cards. It reminded us a little of the servants’ rooms in Downton Abbey (and it was kind of fun to play Mr. Bates and Anna). Everyone who worked at the Inn (including the women cleaning the pictures in the hallways) was friendly and welcoming. And the hot water continues to be soothing and amazing. It was quite a treat to sit in it at night, after a wonderful dinner in the dining room, and watch the full moon, with gauzy clouds floating over it, rise above us. Dinner, including an outstanding and reasonably priced wine (Out Kaste) and great service, was wonderful and memorable. The Chico breadsticks and breads started the meal and were followed by large and tasty salads. I had the gnocchi, with fresh vegetables (from Chico’s gardens) and goat cheese and almonds, and Michael chose a pork chop with potatoes. Both were tasty, hot, nicely presented, and far more than we could eat (in fact, I took my leftover gnocchi home, and had three more meals from it). Service was thoughtful and attentive. The next morning we toured the wonderful gardens, greenhouses, and enjoyed the gift shops and wandering around the grounds. We won’t wait another 15 years to return to Chico.

Atmosphere of resort is nice but having buildings all the way arid the pool takes away from the view. Not a lot of temp difference between the two pools. Nice surprise is a bar so you can have a drink while in pool. Probably can do this brings pool isn't that hot.

Try the mud massage and after - head over to the saloon. The drinks were cheap and the food surpassed my expectations. The actual hot springs however, we didn't try - too crowded. Make sure you visit the horses - they like to eat the clover out of your hand.

We stayed in the Lower Lodge Spa Suite, which was very large and decadent: King bed, huge shower, and a big, 2 person hot tub in the room. The hot springs were very nice to relax in and dinner at the restaurant was all nice. We would highly recommend staying here.

We knew the rooms would be small, so that was OK. We had our own bathroom, which was important to us. The hot springs pool was excellent.

The hot springs were developed back in the 1800's and have been updated as needed. Beautiful pool and great even hotter pool too. Very clean and staff is friendly. Wonderful gift shop also :)

First time I came during the day in May and used both pools and found them both very warm. Then kids showed up and it got quite noisy, not the atmosphere for a good soak in the hot pool being as it's right next to the other pool. Redeeming factor is that there is a saloon and I went in for a great lunch and beer. The next time I came on a Friday night in August with friends from Yellowstone and the hot pool was not very hot at all and very crowded with all ages. Again made use of the saloon, however there was a wedding going on and it was very crowded and not a very good band at all for dancing which we were hoping to do. We enjoyed wandering around and looking at the photos in the lobby before we left. The admission to the hot pools is very reasonable compared to others I have been to in Colorado. However I could not begin to compare Chico to Hot Sulphur Springs or the after dark Strawberry Hot Springs in Colorado for the soaking experience. But as I said, the saloon is a redeeming factor for Chico. Just not quite the experience I am looking for in Hot Springs and I have to say, I found the Boiling River in Yellowstone to be a much better soaking experience.

I visited Chico with some family from the area in late August 2014. We had a few drinks in the bar and swam in the hot springs pool for about an hour. The experience was good. The people in the bar were great and the drinks were priced right. I'll definitely stop by for a drink and a hot soak the next time I'm in the area.Bottom Line- Chico isn't a luxury hot springs spa. It's a place for locals and a few lucky tourists to relax, have a drink and engage in great conversation. Stop by if you're in the area.
