We took our extended family here for the 1st time this Summer. We took a large camper and also a large 5th wheel camper. We were lucky and did a little research ahead of time and got two grassy sites off the beaten path (near the newly constructed dump station) that were large and private. The beach area is large but you can only swim within the roped off section with a lifeguard. We beached our boats at the beach and had no problems with them for a week. The lake is large and beautiful however the fishing was TERRIBLE !! We caught many small SMALL smallmouth bass but no big ones. Bathrooms/showers where we stayed appeared to be brand new. VERY clean. Note: most of the sites at this campground are for smaller campers (pop-ups or small travel trailers) or tents. The sites right along the lake were BEAUTIFUL sites for tenters or smaller campers. Very few sites on the water could accommodate a larger camper of 25 plus feet. This was one of the more 'casual' state campgrounds when it came to security (I.E. showing your day pass if you left the campground for groceries). I never even bothered paying for the other two cars we brought because they never really checked for your day pass. Put a piece of paper on your dash and they wave you right in !!!Groceries and gas are right down the road in Speculator at Chas. John's Big M. They had literally ANYTHING you might need as far as groceries/beer/cold cuts/etc. The gas station was just a bit further down the road. There were a few restaurants and ice cream places in Speculator. We'll definitely make it back to Moffit Beach. We really enjoyed our stay.

The beach is very nice with sand. The water is shallow, which is great for little kids. The beach area for swimming is small, not sure how it would work if the park was full. We were in site 104, which I knew was across from the parking lot. I chose this site because according to the park map it was across from the beach, close to the bathroom, and the water faucet was behind the site. Between our site and the parking lot was some sort of construction site, which was unattractive to walk thru. The water faucet was behind the site, but you had to walk thru a rock stream. It was an okay average park.

This campground was awesome. It's right on a very private, quiet but gorgeous lake. We stayed in a campsite that was actually on the lake, and brought our boat to moor right along the shore of our campsite. A majority of campsites were private with trees or shrubs in between them. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

The campgrounds are really good. We were in Loop G which was close enough to the lake (100 m). The only issue was that the showers were only open near the camp entrance. There were a new ones near the campgrounds which was not open yet.The beach is good with shallow waters way out and good for swimming and kayaking.A lot of campers were up almost all night, but that didn't bother us since we are also late sleepers. Most of the campgrounds were flat with good shade of trees. We saw a lot of campers with pets.It is very close to the town in case you need to do a quick trip to get stuff.A lot of hiking spots near by. We did the Panther Mountain/Echo cliff which had a very good view of the surrounding lakes from the top. The hike was around a mile with steep climbs at few places. If you decide to go there, I am sure you will have a good time.

I have camped at Moffitt Beach a few times within the past 5 years or so and have to say that many of the campers are loud and can be rude. If I hadn't experienced it more than once then I would say I just had a lemon of a first year. The campgrounds themselves are very nice, kept up well, and the beach is wonderful. Due to the size of the campgrounds there are usually quite a few people in any given area so if you like quiet, truly out in nature camping I would pick your site carefully. The owners are great and monitor the campers so if anyone truly gets rowdy, they handle it accordingly, which is very nice to have! I prefer smaller campgrounds, which is my main reason for not returning, although I may again in the future.

Moffitt Beach is a NYS camp grounds. They are always making improvements. It has a beautiful beach. Many of the campsites are on the water. It has an up-to-date boat launch. The views are fabulous. It is a great place to hike in. The staff is friendly, and they monitor what goes on there. It is great for family camping. The area is great with lots of activities in the summer.

Must book early for holiday camping, but the campground has a great beach and water front to enjoy. Not a far drive into Speculator, NY but a couple of min where there is a grocery store and some small restaurants, but if you are camping then that stuff isn't a priority in my eyes!Tons of Mountain hikes that are less than a 20 min drive away. These are everything from a quick 20 min easy hike to an all day hike if you desire. Family friendly, pet friendly, and as long as you follow the rules with food and such, unexpected visitors are slim to none. I have been going with my wifes family over the past 8 years and have yet to see a bear. Im sure the day will come at some point, but its to be expected when we move to their living quarters

I'm 65 years old. My family started going to Moffitt Beach when I was about 5. I am going there tomorrow for Labor Day (9/2/13)....the place really grows on you! It has been a focal point in my life, and there is nothing I could ever say about the place that would be anything less that glowing. The campsites, the swimming, the friendly people....it's well-managed, affordable, very scenic, very safe for children. It's #1 and always will be..
