We picked a beautiful sunny, cool day in October to visit Art Omi and found it very easily (several road signs were helpful) since we had never visited Ghent, NY before. We were pleasantly surprised to find out there is no admission fee (we did give a donation later) and so we set out to explore the sculptures scattered throughout the 60 acres. We found some really wonderful sculptures and my two children had a great time running between the pieces. My favorite piece was this large white cube sculpture that had another cube form intersecting it. Every place you viewed it, it looked like a different space. There are two wooded areas, but we did not venture in too far since there was so much to see in the open fields. The sculptures do change seasonally and we found some sculptures we really liked and others we didn't. Would have liked to see more figurative sculpture, but the huge heads were pretty amazing. My eight year old son announced, "This is my favorite museum" since he could run around and still see art! We had a great time looking around.

Summer experience in August. Open house dance review is worth experiencing for an unusual and artistic view of dance and form.

This was my "big art" day in honor of it being "burn night" (if you know Burning Man, you know what I am talking about).I truly loved the wander/hike through the property/park EXCEPT I was SWARMED by midgies (tsetse flies, sand fleas - you know - those little things that the bite comes up a few days later)....it was AWFUL. When a breeze came - they were blown away - but towards the end of our hour(ish) I had to go fast.Wish I would have had a hat on as it is a very sunny stroll. We did not take a map and were glad a friend had said: there is more beyond the railroad ties, or we might not have gone there.Saw a ground hog, too- always an auspicious sign :)Nice bathroomsOh - and the art? Made me very happy, good curation, dandy mix of climbable and touchable with variety of materials. YAY.

We didn't have time to fully explore the park, so didn't see everything. It is quite large, with sculptures placed far apartment and there are a lot of paths to explore. Would love to go back and spend more time, and check out some of the programs they have to offer. You might want to go early if it is a hot day, as the fields are quite open. Also take bug repellent for the areas that are among the trees and by the pond,

Congratulations to the founders of OMI Arts Center and Fields of Sculpture. The permanent installations and changeable exhibitions are top notch and add to the cultural offerings in theHudson River Valley. Works by established and lesser known sculptors are installed on the rolling landscape and in the woods which adds to the flavor of the park. Additionally it is a perfect destination for all including children.

Awesome to find OMI out here nestled amongst the hills. Enjoyed walking through the fields and exploring the different exhibits as well as the artists studios and many times they will also have an artist or author speaking in the visitor center/cafe.

Whenever I visit a cousin in Old Chatham, we usually stop by The Fields at OMI to see the outdoor sculptures scattered about some 90 acres. On the visit in June, we had a mutual friend from high school along for the ride.We were happy to see that the Visitor Center had added a cafe. The barn houses artist studios. When they're open, it's interesting to stop by and see the works in progress.

I have mixed feeling about the fields sculpture park. It's an amazing experience to walk through acres and come up sculpture out in the open, hidden behind trees, and placed in the ground. Eventhough you know a new sculpture is around the bend, its still an odd experience to come upon in in the woods. That part of the experience was amazing. On the other hand, with the exception of a few pieces, none of the sculptures truly "spoke to me". Many of the sculptures seemed to take on a similiar theme.

Great art, beautiful scenery. There is a new cafe in the visitor's centre, which is great after a spring or fall stroll through the sculpture fields. For an extra, visit the artists' studios at the nearby barn complex.

We have visited the open studio days at Art Omi several times over the years and always found them to be satisfying and intriguing. This September we attended a contemporary dance performance for all the dancers in residence. It was truly superb. Omi has also opened a visitors center with a restaurant, offering dishes from local Columbia Country produce, and a gallery. We have enjoyed walking through the sculpture gardens as well. We are very glad friends who live in Stuyvesant introduced us to this wonderful art colony.

a pleasant walk: some of the art is half hidden and some can't be missed. We especially enjoyed the changing view of the "double boxes" pictured at this website. The view of this piece changes amazingly with each step. My sister's favorite is likely the large figures that look like they are dripped with candle wax or the bedsteads with rock pillows. We also enjoyed the wildflowers of the woods and fields, taking photos of some unknowns so that we could identify them later. Plan a couple of hours to enjoy the site as well as the unusual art.

Unexpected constructions. Creative pieces set in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Ok, so modern art is not really my thing. However, I thought it would be nice to view some outdoor art. It was nice walking the grounds and taking pictures of the various displays. There are some hidden ones, so you need to pay attention, especially in the woods. It ended up being a nice way to end a nice day in Columbia County.

We stopped by here during a day trip south, and it was an enlightening way to spend some time, wandering about in the field, looking at the art and debating what it meant and what art really is, anyway. It's out in the middle of south nowhere, certainly nowhere you're ever likely to just stumble across, but it made for a nice stop on a day trip.

Gorgeous setting with fantastic art. This is a great way to spend an afternoon, especially if you're in the mood for a walk. (It's also dog friendly!)
