quail dunes golf course

This is course that has improved in condition. I played it a couple of years ago when the drought was on and it was in very rough shape. Many of the fairways and greens were dead. The rains this season have really helped. The fairways and greens were in super shape the day I played. I had a good round.The front nine is an old park style course and the back nine is more open and modern in architecture. Definitely a course with two very distinct nines. There are no sand bunkers on the entire course, which is sort of weird. Most of the holes are pretty easy if you keep the ball in play. Visuals are passable, but nothing to write home about. The staff was friendly, but the clubhouse was old and beat up. It needed a coat of paint and some remodeling. The day I played, the course was not very crowded and the pace of play was excellent. If you want to avoid long rounds at a crowded metro course, this place may be your ticket. Green fees and cart rental was reasonable. Worth the 90 mile drive from Denver.The course sets up with five consecutive par 4's and then goes to a long par 5 and then finishes with a couple of short par 4's and par 3. Most decent hitters probably don't need a driver off the tee, except of the par 5. The back is more traditional with two par 5's, two par 3's and five par 4's. Last time I was at the course, they were talking about redoing the layout but evidently that never happened. This isn't a real special course, but you can get in a good day of golf without a lot of waiting. There is also a really nice Greek restaurant called "Elaine's Place" that is just across the parking lot from the clubhouse.

Best Greek salad I've ever had, great selection of desserts and service was excellent. It's sometimes nice to find restaurants with table cloths and real silverware in the rural areas.

Super value for golf on the eastern plains. Clubs available to test "drive" on the course.
