This lake is a wonderful place to visit. I have seen bald eagles, deer, foxes and lots of geese at this lake. I have also camped at the lake several times. What a great way to spend a weekend.

This is our third year of hosting at Carter lake for the Larimer County Parks. We have enjoyed it and plan to come back. However, if anyone out there is planning on coming to Carter Lake, make note that they have over 6 campsites, some on the water and most weekends during the season are full. You have to make reservations ahead of time by calling 1-800-397-7795. If you are thinking about camping during the season, start calling in January. The campsites either have electricity only or are tent sites. Water can be obtained from the hosts sites or anywhere in the park. Boating is allowed, rentals available, but if you are bringing a boat it has to be inspected before allowed in the water. There is an outdoor fire ring and picnic table provided. Make sure you keep your food in an airtight container in the car, we do have bears, mountain lions, skunks, deer, rabbits and very smart crows.

We have spent many days up at Carter lake, fishing, swimming, boating, hiking..etc...It is very close to the Northern Front Range Communities....15min from the town of Berthoud with many things to do. Camping, hiking, swimming and boating are just a few...Well managed, friendly stores and employees...Will return for more fun !! A few other lakes in the area as well...

Carter Lake is one of those places that you don't think of first when looking for an outdoor opportunity. However, it provides easy access to many Front Range communities with boating, camping and hiking options. There are fees, including for day use, and reservations are highly recommended for camping spots. If geology interests you, there are some excellent locations to study the Morrison formation in the south side.

We camped at Eagle Campground, large spots with trees; other campers were super friendly. Enjoyed running the trail on west side of lake, had a buffalo burger at Roadhouse afterWe love the marina...looking forward to renting a pontoon boat on carter lake when they are in the water. Close, but not too close.

This beautiful 1,100-acre reservoir is surrounded by 1,000 acres of public lands. It's a great place for fishing, sailing, water skiing, camping, picnicking, swimming, scuba diving, and rock climbing.
