The scenery is gorgeous; the amenities they offer are top notch. My only compliant would be the planner that comes with your package. She creates nothing but stress with your guest. Picking at every detail that you (bride and groom) don't care about. The parking isn't great. The planner tells you to park in a field around 250 yards from the house. In this field, there isn't proper markings for parking, therefore it leaves people to assume, which creates chaos. No handicap parking; the planner doesn't show the least bit of care toward the guest, young or old.

I love visiting Rock Castle, especially in the fall for Pioneer Days and the Halloween ghost stories. It is just a beautiful place where you can really get close to our history. I'm especially fond of the first room on the left when you enter. The craftsmanship in the wood paneling is amazing. The nature trail is also nice.

I attended a friend's wedding at this venue, and it was a picturesque and romantic setting outside by the lake.

This is a greatly under rated site. I was shocked to find out most people do not go or do not even know about it. The tour guide, Sam, was informative, friendly and engaging. I was able to take photos as long as there was no flash and I couldn't stop myself, the place is full of treasures you rarely have a chance to see about colonial times. I saw several people come but only take a look around the exterior and not pay to tour the building, their loss, it was well worth it.Lovely lovely location, full of history and the soft touches of real life such as a letter from the former lady of the house to her husband.A must see for visitors and locals and super easy to find!

I have lived in and around Nashville, TN all my life but never really heard of Rock Castle until my friend and I started visiting all the Historical Homes in our area. This one was very interesting and the tour guide we had was very knowledgeable and friendly and fun to be with. The only bad review I could give on this one was the directions on the web gave incorrect infomation. They showed you going in the direction of Indian Lake shopping area which was the opposite way to go. The only other negative comment was that they did not have any post cards of the inside of the house and since you can't take pictures inside it would have been nice to have some post cards for our album. Other than those few things everything was just great. We really enjoyed our visit and you will too. Our tour guide was Amy. She really did do an exceptional job.

Enjoyed tour very much! Your guide very knowledgeable about house, property and history. Call before going because some days there is only one staff member there and they don't give tours in that case. We had to go a second time to get tour. Otherwise well worth money!

The property itself is not large but the tour of the 240 year old property is a ripper because it is brought to life by a great story-teller and historian (Sam I think).Daniel Smith, the original owner builder had close links to Jefferson and Jackson and the stories had to be heard to be believed - including one about the scalping of two youngsters - but I'll leave it at that.We visited on a Saturday when they had the "Songwriters Session" where locals (Nashville and surrounds) perform - it is a modest entry donation and i wish we could have stayed longer than an hour or so.The music session was down on numbers because of poor weather in the few hours before but they need to advertise there is heaps of undercover seating for all weather.Well done to the people who run this public gem of history

Many times my wife and I have seen the Rock Castle exit sign on Vietnam Veterans Hwy and finally decided to visit this late 1700’s attraction originally owed by Gen. Daniel Smith, a Revolutionary War Hero and several other important titles with U.S. Senator one of them. We have now visited the attraction three times, taking visitors from out of state. If you are looking for an attraction that has a great tour and has a ton of history this is the place to go in Hendersonville.I believe that in September of each year they celebrate Daniel Smith Colonial Days with period attire of hunters, trappers, traders, with crafts, demonstrations, and entertainers. My wife and I hope to attend this year’s event.

A little late, but wanted to acknowledge this exceptionally beautiful, outdoor location for our wedding. We were exceptionally pleased with the views in our pictures and the pavilion for the reception. My only suggestion is make sure to account for cicadas which descended on several weddings the Summer before our wedding. The unfortunate brides had to deal with nearly unbearable sounds throughout their weddings and receptions.

This home was of the Smith's dating back to the 1700's. Many history lessons here, including the association the family had with president Andrew Jackson. Very interesting to see how the eastern half of the US once mostly consisted just of North and South Carolina, and Virginia, and they extended all the way out to the Mississippi River. Come by if you're in town and love history, it's definitely worth it.

I love the story of this family and their relation to President Jackson. I know Old Hickory Lake was not there during their time but it is an awesome backdrop to this property. Loved the family cemetery.

Fun stuff here throughout the year. Daniel Smith Days is pretty cool, as are the school trips for the kids. Great history and a neat property.

Great restored property from days gone by. Such a great place for a wedding! Large grounds space and a pavilion to support any type of function.

You'll feel welcomed in the world of the eighteenth century, viewed through the life of Revolutionary War hero, Gen. Daniel Smith, who was a stateline surveyor, U.S. Senator, Indian Negotiator and original owner and builder of his family home: Historic Rock Castle, circa 1784. General Smith brought stone masons from Germany to build this home located on scenic Old Hickory Lake. This 18-acre historic property offers much to explore! The 2 story home has some original furnishings. If you're a fan of early Middle Tennessee history, this home has stories of Native Indian raids, secret elopements and friendships with Presidencial aspirers. There's the 2-story home, a pavilion for hosted parties and a gift shop. During the summer months, a pioneer day camp is held to acquaint pre-teens with 18th century life. Symphonic music concerts, weddings and family reunions use the grounds too - so call ahead to find out what's happening. We are fond of the "Daniel Smith Days" held in September. Excellent way to relive the 18th Century.

My 9 year old daughter & I happened upon Historic Rock Castle when my phone directed us to the wrong Demos'. I'm glad it did. The tour was very informative and interesting. Very glad we went.
