Hidden in the foothills of East Tennessee is the worlds finest country ham. Besides the outstanding country ham I have enjoyed the smoked bacon and filet mignon steaks. Alan ships his country hams all over the world. An experience not to be missed.

Benton's Hams and bacon are famous among the upscale chefs across the USA. Hundreds of restaurants including Blackberry Farm feature Benton's country hams and bacon on their menus. The bacon makes the best Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwiches ever! The bacon is so distinctive that it only takes 2 or 3 slices for your sandwich.The best thing about Benton's from our standpoint is that its not very far from where we live. In addition to the restaurant/mail order business, Alan Benton has a little retail operation in the front of his plant. (FYI...He is frequently on premises and he is a real gentleman who will tell you that he is indeed blessed) So we buy the bacon, country ham slices and the prosciutto. In addition, Benton's also carries strip and rib eye steak, bologna, cheese, hot dogs, ribs, sausage, etc. for his local customers. Steaks are priced below market and they cut them when you order them. The bologna is amazing and we love the mild sausage. The hot dogs are terrific too...but with only 2 of us, frozen packs of 24 are just impractical. Hundreds of smoked hams can be seen from the retail portion of the building. The smoked smell stays with you after visiting the retail operation and the retail operation isn't fancy, that's for sure. That's one of the factors that we appreciate!

It's well worth a little detour here on your way to Blackberry Farm or the Smokies. Buy yourself some fabulous bacon to take back home and meet the incredibly nice proprietor who'll likely give you a quick tour.

We stopped here on our way to the Smoky Mountains because I had read the family history on this little gem of a spot and wanted to stop. As soon as we walked in we had the pleasure of speaking with the owner. That was a treat. The staff was so very nice. I picked up 4 packs of bacon and some fresh eggs. The prices were very reasonable. They even sold ground meat and other items I was surprised they offered. The cashier even showed us what the bacon looks like before they package it. What a treat this little stop was. We had bacon every day on our trip and even brought some home. If you are a fan of bacon, you really should stop by and buy some. If you google this place you will find some pretty great articles on what makes this place so special. I plan to stop by here on each trip we make to the Smokies. Great bacon! So happy I found them!!

Really the title says it all, and this is the real deal kind of place, yumm bacon..and ham that I will have to order(didn't think that one through, how to get a whole ham home!)

Small hole in the wall shop in the middle of nowhere, but they have the best tasting ham and bacon (and some cheese and chicken too!) around. It's mostly all prepared there on site and even have been mentioned by cooks on TV. Always stop every fall to buy somthing as Christmas presents!

If you happen to be on HWY 411S between Vonore, TN and Madisonville, TN you need to stop at Benton's Smoky Mountain Hams and Bacon. If you happen to be allergic to the smell of country smoked bacon and or ham, DO NOT go in there. It is intense. Allan Benton is the owner and is in competition as being the nicest and friendliest human alive. If you happen to get to meet and talk with him, you are in for a treat. This place and his product are famous. More top chef's use his bacon than you can imagine. He has been in more magazine articles and TV spots than he can remember. He can sell more than he can make and has never spent a cent on advertising. That alone tells you he and his products are special. This is a great example of a good man working very hard that did well.

Bentons Country Hams have been in business at this location since 1947. when you walk in, the smell of smoked hams is incredible. The sell only to locals and restaurants around the country.You can buy right there or order online. Their products are just fantastic, nothing fresher around. There are about 3000 smoked hams hanging in this processing plant. there is no match for the taste of there great products. during the fall holiday season people are lined up to order products for the holidays and also to send to friends and relatives.
