It might be hard to find, especially if you come from Monument Valley into the northern direction. Seems so far, while on the Forrest Gump Movie everything as so close. Of course it's because they have used tele lenses to shoot and you should use them too in order to get best effects on your photos. There are some places to stop the car around the wooden sign. Be careful with the traffic on the highway.

It is just pass the mile marker 13 of hwy 163 in UT, closing to AZ. There are multiple turnouts between mile 13 and mile 14. If you drive to north, the view will be in your back. If you drive to south you won't miss it. The good time to take a picture is in the morning or sun rise. Back light in the afternoon will make your photo lose contract, yet I think sunset might be OK because you see buttes in silhouette.Be careful of the traffic, if you take photos on the road.

Just don't be an idiot and keep standing in the middle of the highway admiring the view. I saw some tourists almost get run over - the guy had set up a tripod and was taking forever. A car came barreling by, didn't honk, just went around him going at least 40mph. Yes, the driver shouldn't have done that, but the photographer was the true imbecile. This is a highway, after all.

Take time to stop on this busy road. It is well worth seeing and taking your own picture of this beautiful place! Don't miss it!

It was a little hazier or dustier than some of the images I have seen. I was looking forward to seeing this and it was better than expected. We drove through then turned around to go back and see it again. If you are on a tight budget or tight schedule you can skip Monument Valley. I would highly recommend Monument Valley also that said you see a lot from the road.

From the Forrest Gump movie, you will remember him running and running. He got tired on this road. Monument Valley is in the background and this is a beautiful place to stop for a picture.

If you saw the movie "Forest Gump," and if you're traveling on Hwy. U.S. 163 in southern Utan, you must locate this spot and take a photo. You will find it near mile marker 13. Traveling south from Mexican Hat, Utah, this is easy to spot. Coming north from Kayenta, you'll be looking back through your mirror quite a bit. There aren't very many good places to pull off, so take care when looking for a spot. The picture is a fun reminder of some beautiful contryside.

On our trip to Monument Valley we had to stop here to get that classic photo of the road heading into the area from the north. We were there in early October so it was easy to pull over and with very little traffic, you can go out on the highway to get a great shot. The desolate road leading into the distant landscape is certainly something you don't see every day. There was a highway sign and some cars in the distance that I easily photoshopped out of the picture when we got home! My wife even bought a piece of jewelry from one of the Navajo stands at the top of the hill.

Ok, here you are, suddenly the up road opens to a wide and deep breathtaking landscape of the profound southern Utah. The photo is mandatory and easy to take in such a lonely road. Have some minutes to enjoy it.

No need to stop unless you want a picture, need some Indian jewelry or you came from Monument Valley.

you pass by without you really notice... it's simply the best road to Monument Valley.... been there even before it was called F.G. point... The beautyness of M.V. is so natural, you'll take it for granted...

Fun! Beautiful! We stopped late afternoon for some shots. Then came back the next morning. Pictures were better in the morning.

This is not only the point where Tom Hanks, as Forrest Gump, finally stopped running but was a popular setting for many of the John Ford/John Wayne Westerns and other films up through the 1960s. Now, it serves as the backdrop for a plethora of commercials. We live several hours south of Monument Valley and drive through it often on our way to Utah. We came up and over the hill from the south one recent day and saw a tight group of people off on the shoulder and several of them were holding rectangular silver shields on the end of poles and appeared to be acting out a medieval battle scene. As we passed the group, we saw the man posing vainly on a motorcycle (no real rider would straddle their bike in just that way) and that the shields were in fact reflectors and the tight-knit group was a bevy of professional photographers.More than once, in fact often, we have come over the rise from the south and seen someone trying to cross the road in a terrible hurry or standing in the roadway trying to get that perfect photograph. Once, we saw someone nearly run over by a driver who must have been watching the scenery in his rearview mirror. So please, please, please do what you taught your children: look both ways (twice) before crossing, wait until no cars are coming and don't dally in the traffic lanes. (Really, the view is just as good from the shoulder.)The point is very photogenic although you may have to photograph it over the shoulders of foreign tourists. (Could this be the reason people stand in the middle of the road with their eye pressed to a viewfinder?)

The thing about America is it's just so big, a photo can't beat actually standing at the same place Forrest Gump stopped running, and just in case you're not to sure there's a sign by the side of the road

Okay...it's not much but it's fun to stop here and get a picture of this iconic view. Just be sure to be safe because cars are zooming through here at 65 mph. And, like you, many of them are checking out the view and not watching the road closely. It's definitely worth a 5 minute stop!
