A lot of history about the area and life in Iowa. I enjoy the frontier days held ever Aug. Shows how life was in that time period and how hard it was.

Loved learning that so many famous individuals came from the Fort Dodge area. Touring the actual buildings that pioneers and settlers lived in and worked in is always awe inspiring - there are a mix of original buildings and replicas. Fort Dodge was home to so many war veterans who are honored in this museum too - very emotional and wonderful to learn about these individuals who sacrificed so much for our nation's freedom.

We visited in late August and had a wonderful time. It was a step back in time. The area was well kept and there were so many things to look at. I am a pharmacist and truly enjoyed the display of pharmaceutical instruments and remedies from the past.

Nice local attraction with a good collection of artifacts. There's very little information about what you're looking at in a lot of instances and there's not a tour guide that we could find to ask about the stuff we were looking at. Nice facility, could use more information for the visitors.

We really enjoyed our walk through the old town and fort. Some of it authentic and some built to fit the period. Well worth the little fee to go in.

The Fort museum contains a replica of a frontier fort along with a "main street" area with buildings one would find in an 1800s frontier town. We were there on a Saturday morning in September so there weren't any reenactments at the time. The main street area had the usual array of late 1800s items. The fort contained several different displays regarding military history from the Civil War to World War II. We spent an hour and a half wandering around looking at stuff...I think kids may get bored fast as there really weren't many hands on exhibits. If you are bringing kiddos I would call ahead to see if any reenactments would be going on...I think that would get the kiddos attention.

I visit the Fort every year during Frontier's Day. Each stop had someone very knowledgable about the building's uses. Even had a professor from a northern college using the 150 year old printing press and having kids have a hands on experience. Great place to visit!

I managed to view the Fort and the reconstructed buildings between rain showers and just before a terrific thunderstorm, so didn't spent too much time between the buildings, but the museum within the Fort had some very interesting memorabilia. The grounds contain the usual array of buildings, well stocked with artifacts from the past (where does it all come from ? ), but wait until its dry, as I had to tip toe through the puddles (as they did in bygone days). At least there was some respite within the Fort and the Museum was very interesting.

Great place for the kids to absorb some history of the area. All five loved the gift shop. Easy to find and helpful staff.

We were staying at the Americinn hotel nearby and saw the Fort and museum as we drove by. The Fort is a reconstruction of a typical Frontier fort of the mid 19th century (as existed at Fort Dodge) and includes an original hut and a number of artifacts that give a good impression of military life in the frontier days. Even more impressive is the small street outside of about a dozen properties most of which are original from the same period and really show what life was like for the pioneer farmers and others of the mid west. Every building has an astonishingly wide collection of original contents. The museum is almost entirely run by volunteers and deserved to be supported and encouraged. Very well worth a visit for young and old.
