Even though the building are not open, it is still fun to hike around and see winter on Superior. The gift shop is open, they show movies and you can still hike - but not all of the trails. Friendly staff, glad we stopped.

During the summer months Duluth and almost the entire noerth shore can become quite the zoo of people and kids. During the Winter or late fall, you will find at almost every attraction on senic 61 will have about 25% of the visitors that they would otherwise have during peak months. During the winter the light house and keepers quarters are closed but you are still FREE to walk around the ground and see everything else. Suggestion go up when the ice begins to break, stand by the light house on the lookout, look over the edge by the 25cent binoculars (chrome) and look done and listen to the amazing sound of the ice crashing against itself, and buckling. Amazing and FREE. Also FYI the visitor center has some amazing info on its history.

I have been to the lighthouse on several occasions with photo groups or fellow photographers, always get different scenic views everytime. Love it! This is one of the most picturesque lighthouses I believe in the world how it sits on the rock. Beautiful!

We loved our time in Duluth for our 45th wedding anniversary and enjoyed making this stop also. Learned some history and geology in the area also found several geocaches.

Split Rock Lighthouse is a fabulous place. People can view what an old lighthouse was really like. I recommend this very highly.

Split Rock has a great history of ships at the bottom of Lake Superior. There are some really neat maps with lots of history. Make sure you go on a warmer day so you can walk around the grounds and do some exploring! There is a $5 park fee to use this park.

The area and view are beautiful and if you are a history buff it will be very interesting. I would like to stop again when it is not raining and hike some of the trails.

The short film about the building of the Lighthouse is worth it. Fascinating history of the North Shore and why the lighthouse needed to be built. Also learned that iron ore messes with the ships' compass and that led to many wrecks on the dark shores.

I've driven by the turn-off for Split Rock Lighthouse countless times growing up, but only went in to visit on a recent trip. I was in need of a bathroom break and my partner wanted to stretch his legs. it was early Nov and I think $5 for our pass for Minnesota State Parks for the day. We really enjoyed the overlook, and there were some beautiful views of the lighthouse and the rugged Lake Superior Shoreline. The trails all seemed clearly marked, and we took a short hike down to the beach before getting back on the road. The beach is pretty rocky, but it was a great place to view the waves on a windy day. This site seems well laid out, with plenty of information provided on the history of the lighthouse.

What a great place and a beautiful view. You have to hike up to the lighthouse. If it is winter I suggest you dress warm. I highly recommend this stop.

This lighthouse gives visitors the opportunity to view Lake Superior in all it's glory, and if you look at the lighthouse from a little but afar, a greater view of the lighthouse is possible. A good sunset is also possible from the lighthouse.

We stopped at Split Rock Lighthouse this year. It has been ages since we visited the lighthouse. The guided tour was interesting. I've seen tons of lighthouses in my day, but hearing the stories was great. An iconic Minnesota landmark that can't be missed. This isn't Disney World (keep your expectations in check), but it is still a great place to learn about Minnesota history, hike and take in the beauty of Lake Superior and the northland.

We really enjoyed our visit to Split rock Lighthouse. The film on the building of the Lighthouse was really well done. Our 6 year old son was on the edge of his seat watching it. Very interesting information was given by the tour guide. You will not regret the time spend at this attraction.

Get ready to climb stairs! We took the path down from the lighthouse to be able to see if from the beach & get a good look at the rock it sits on. The views are great and it's totally worth the extra effort to see if from a different angle.

It is so fun to go up into the lighthouse and hear the history. There is a visitor center with a bunch of maps and pictures of days gone by. You can climb down the stairs to the waters edge and walk along the rocky beach and skip stones. Highly recommend!
