We have rented canoes to go into the BWCA from Sawtooth for the last few years. Great equipment and a good price. We have three young children and they are one of the few outfitters that has a canoe that can carry the whole family. The staff is always helpful and a source of great info on conditions in the BWCA.

First BWCA trip with the family! Staff at Sawtooth answered my questions about possible BWCA routes over the phone (4-day, easier route for newbies). Sarah helped me pick out what we'd need (2-seat canoe, 3-seat canoe, oars, seat cushion chairs, large pack, bear-proof barrel with straps) and answered my questions. A week later we were in their shop looking over a map and getting some more ideas. The next morning, they helped us attach 2 canoes on top of our minivan, and away we went. We had an amazing trip and everyone wants to do it again next year. There are several entry points near Tofte, and we liked how it was quieter than the Ely area. I would definitely recommend Sawtooth Outfitters. We stayed the night before at the Americinn and the night after at Lamb's Resort and Campground. Those were great, too.

My wife and I wanted to kayak Lake Superior. We went out of Tofte. The staff was very good. They helped us with the right equipment. They checked the lake to insure it was safe. Our guide took us down the lake and went at our speed. He answered our questions as we went. I would recommend them for kayaking Lake Superior.

We wanted to Kayak on Lake Superior and Sawtooth outfitters were close by where we were staying. They had modern facilities and very nice equipment. They were reasonable, professional and safety conscious. We kayaked with our guide along the coast to the mouth of where the Temperance River joins Lake Superior, rested and used the facilities and came back. We had a nice experience and it was well worth the money. My kids said that they wished we were able to rent the kayak to just go out by ourselves but I don't believe this was an option.

Beautiful store; everything you could want and more. Friendly and knowledgable staff; good pricing. Enjoyed renting bikes, even if sore bottoms after 20-mile ride. Would definitely stop again; hopefully, bathroom working.

Rented downhill equipment for family of six. Reasonably good equipment. Much quicker and easier to rent than at the hill. Not much more expensive. Easy turn-in. Friendly staff.

We rented out canoes and gear from the Sawtooth Outiffter on Sept 04 2011. Even thought we returned after their closing time and we were able to return the gear only when they opened for the next day, they were still accommodating and didn't charge us for the extra day.The quality of the canoes and gear were good and we had a great trip. We were beginners and they even gave us some good tips that made our trip very enjoyable.I would recommend this outfitter group.

Called for partial outfitting (canoe, cook supplies, packs, thermarests) on short notice and Sarah was very friendly and accommodating. Arrived at about 8:30 on a Thursday morning and was greeted and helped right away. I immediately noticed that the packs looked brand-new. The staff help put up a temporary rack to handle their canoe and my kayak., then helped tie everything down. Nothing was rushed, but there wasn't any dawdling either. The store is clean and organized. Came back at about 6:30 on Saturday night and same thing - they helped us right away, they were friendly and relaxed - in spite of apparently putting in 12-hour days 7 days per week. Definitely recommended.
