I rode my bicycle on the trail. I began my ride in St. Joseph, Minnesota and rode as far as Freeport before I turned around. The portion of the trail that I rode was very flat and easy to ride. From St. Joe to Albany the trail was well shaded. From Albany to Freeport there was more prairie and fields. Just be aware this would be quite warm on a sunny day. There were plenty of places to stop along the way. There are restrooms at the parks. The trail was not as crowded as some of the other bike trails in Minnesota. As others have stated the trail is paved. There are some portions that need to be repaved but the trail is in good repair. This is a good place for the entire family to take a walk or go for a bike ride. This is probably one of the easiest and longest off road bike rides around. The trail has a good website with lots of useful information. Be sure to check it out before you take your ride.

I am familiar with the stretch of the LWT around Holdingford. Trailhead is downtown, at a small park with a nice clean restroom, and close to a pizza/sandwich shop, bar and grill and hardware store. Also 2 blocks south of the trailhead is a city park that allows free camping, so great for bicyclists passing through. The trail itself is paved and nicely maintained and smooth. Because it is part of the "rails to trails" system, the grade is very gradual so easy enough riding for little kids and families. Good for walkers, joggers and dog walkers, too. A block south of the trailhead is a very nice covered bridge. See attached photo. Enjoy, but bring bug spray at this time of hear. As you head south out of Holdingford, and first couple of miles are fairly open, going through farmland. After that, trees along one side of trail. North of town, you are immediately surrounded by trees, a few houses on one side, and parts are heavily wooded. Very peaceful and enjoyable! Lots of songbirds, wild turkeys, a few swans earlier this Spring, and a couple deer were spotted at various times this season so far.

This is a great trail to walk or bike in the fall, spring, and summer. It's also a fun trail to snowmobile in the winter!. It starts in Sauk Centre and stretches to Avon, MN. Don't forget to gobble at the turkeys as you go by the farm!

I took an 11 mile run on a Sunday morning. There wasn't a lot of traffic on the path, it was flat and the pavement was in good shape. I really enjoyed my run and look forward to exploring more of the trail.

Very nicely maintained black top bike trail. Nice wide trail that can be walked or biked. Well maintained and nice scenery to enjoy along the way!

Located in Garrison Keillor's mythical neighborhood, the Lake Wobegon trail connects with other Minnesota bike trails, creating an extensive network of biking/hiking trails that are beautiful in all seasons. Be sure to stop at Charlie's Cafe in Freeport for lunch and awesome caramel rolls!

The tarred path is pretty flat. Pretty easy to bike or walk. The towns are not too far apart to stop and get ice cream or a soft drink. Plenty of places to stop and just enjoy the scenery. Lots of wild life. A deer jumped out right in front of us the other day. Most of the time it is pretty empty and you have the trail to yourself.

We live close to the trail. Near Holdingford, MN. There is a covered bridgein town that is the longest one in the state as far as I know.

We bike from St. Joseph to Albany on the trail for a total of 30 miles. The trail is wide, paved and goes through some nice scenery. Lots of wild flowers along side the trail. Benches and parks to stop for restroom breaks are available. I saw a deer with a fawn in the distance. The portion of the trail we did was pretty level. It was not very crowded on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. People were biking and rollerblading. I highly recommend this trail for anyone looking for a very pleasant easy ride.
