Dear Brandon, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you believe the bumpers provided to you were unsatisfactory, which led to your negative experience at the end of what we hope was a great day on Lake Hopatcong for you and your party. At Bridge Marina, we strive to provide the best boating experience possible and we are passionate about what we do in providing products and services to our clients. We take meticulous care of our rental boats and trust that our rental clients will do the same. We make every effort to ensure that our rental clients do not damage our boats, which we know is a surefire way to ruin a great day for everyone. Our thorough pre-rental instruction and assistance are unmatched on Lake Hopatcong and are just two of the many ways that Bridge Marina works to ensure our clients’ safety and enjoyment, and that our boats are not damaged. Our staff’s recollection of this incident is quite different from how you have portrayed it. Unfortunately, your party did cause significant damage to one of the two boats last Sunday after a full day of fun on the lake. As with all our rentals, our staff provided your party with significant pre-rental training and your boat was outfitted with all safety gear, including sets of pontoon fenders that are more than adequate for the vessel. The fenders provided to your party have been used by hundreds of boat rental groups this summer with no complaints as to their quality or effectiveness. Our rental procedures include instruction on how fenders are to be used, but we cannot preset the fenders to protect you in all situations you may encounter; this is the renter’s responsibility. We were as disappointed as you were to see the damage to the boat and this was discussed with you at very significant length. We reluctantly needed to charge our bare minimum $150 cost to repair the excessive damage you caused to our $30,000 rental boat and to clean up the excessive mess your party left behind. We recall your request of “decreased damage fees in exchange for not posting a negative review online,” but we believe this does not align with our business ethics and we must decline such requests. Furthermore, the member of your party discussing this issue with our staff appeared rather impaired after having too much “fun” on the water and was becoming unruly and intemperate with our staff after lengthy discussion, which is neither appropriate nor permissible at our family friendly marina. It was at this point that our only safe recourse was to consider contacting the local authorities in order to protect our staff and other clients’ well being. Brandon, we are confident that our staff acted in a courteous, reasonable and professional manner regarding the damage caused by your party. While we wish the outcome and your total experience had been different, we stand by our decision. Again, we are sorry to hear that the end of your time with us did not go as you would have hoped after you damaged the rental boat, but we do trust that you and your party enjoyed a fun day on Lake Hopatcong.
