We stayed at the St. James Hotel Sat. night and were looking forward to some shopping and walking around Old Town on Sunday, only to find EVERYTHING closed up tight as a drum even at 11:00 am on Sunday morning. Stores that in the hotel folders of things to do and see are listed as open, were not open. Very disappointing. I guess they aren't interested in business!

Enjoyed walking through the trading company, got a really good deal on a 3 strand fetish Navajo necklace. Not much else to see other than St James Hotel , the old mill.

The walking tour of "Old Cimarron" is a self-guided tour using a pamphlet with map and location descriptions. It is designed to be walked in an order that is sensible and does not take but an hour or 2 at the most; and the locations are all marked with historical markers and are immediately accessible outside the doors of the St. James Hotel. If you are attempting to locate using a car in a "drive-by" fashion, not much will likely become present or come into view for you.The walking tour is charming and affords lots of discoveries, including your own imagination of what living in Cimarron of the 1860's-1880's could have been like. HIghlights are the St. James hotel, the old well, the mill, and the jail. Pictures in the pamphlet afford opportunities to match up buildings and locations with photos taken "back in the day."And the cemetery is another point of interest, best accessed by car, but could be walked if you are up for the extra distance as part of the walking tour. Allow more time if you stop in the Old Mill museum, a highly recommended place to visit.

Maybe it was just us, but we took the map the hotel provided and tried and tried to find Old Town. There were some places we found, but some of them listed on the map were not there anymore and we wound up driving in circles, getting nowhere fast. However, in all fairness, Cimarron is a small town and you can't expect a lot. Much of its charm is its small size and a feeling of stepping back in time. We still had fun exploring. If you want big city sights, go to a big city.

I am a big history buff- military and western. I really did like the way the place was set up. Made it real easy to understand

I can see why people don't find Cimarron Old Town very interesting. If you walk around on your own, you won't see much. But we really enjoyed the Lamplight Tour that is offered on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. There were about a dozen people on the tour on the Saturday we went. The guide was very knowledgeable and full of stories of the old west and the gory and wild history of the town. He knew everything from the factual history to the family histories to the ghost stories. The buildings don't look like much, but with these stories, the place is truly interesting.

More art galleries and tourist traps. Nothing really exceptional about old town.

This little collection of stores offers something for everyone, it is the purfect place to get that special suviner to take home with you. In the summer there is a staged shoot out for your viewing and I have been there on occasion when they also had indian dancers. A really family tridition for may whom come to Red River.

We visited Cimarron on Thursday 18th June, 2009. When we found the main street the St James Hotel was closed for renovations until the 22nd June, and the Old Mill Museum is closed on Thursdays. The rest of the street is probably very original but it is derelict with junk lying around and no signs or information that we could see. Unless the history of the St James Hotel has been preserved and is worth the trip then I woud give Cimarron a wide berth which is a shame as it has a reputation worth building on.

St. James Hotel is great-the rest of Old Town with the exception of Aztec mill is a waste of time.
