A really fascinating Old West museum of firearms and How the West Was Won — seriously. The grounds are also very well done and there's always a herd of pronghorn antelope in the field next door for viewing as well. The store has a bit of everything firearms and NRA related, and is a nice stop as well. Don't miss it!

Shooting sports aside, the Whittington Center has an outstanding museum of local and state history, hundreds of artifacts laid out in a timeline fashion. The Whittington Center is also home of the ruins of the historic mining town of Van Houten, New Mexico. The "ghost town" has been closed at times for events on the nearby shooting ranges, but it is generally open to the public. Ask about accessibility at the visitor center and sign in at the security gate. There are even short walking paths through the ruins and signs labeling various buildings and neighborhoods. Mostly the ruins are foundations but there is a least one standing house and other semi-standing buildings. The ironwork mine entrance gate is absolutely worth the extra walk past the town.

I didn't like the fortress like stucko gates, the advertisments they had on the local radio. I am not a supporter of the NRA so this is not going to be my kind of place. Kind of like a NASCAR facility for gun lovers.

Stopped here for the night on way to Philmont. They are VERY Scout friendly. Pulled in late and staff was exceptionally courteous. Campsites were beautiful. Had breakfast prepared by JD, all you can eat for great price. Went shooting then right out the back door, 12g, 250 rounds between 7 of us. Instructor Dave spent time with each f us to help us out then let us 'fire at will'. Gift shop is wonderful as is bullet museum. The director of the center was working the cash register as someone was sick. Down home Scout friendly, inexpensive place. A MUST DO STOP FOR ALL SCOUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you like the outdoors, then you need to experience the NRA Whittington center in New Mexico. The cabins are great, and there are some excellent places to camp if you don't want to stay in a cabin. World class shooting ranges and super scenic views all around you.

Many very nice ranges with plenty to do for everyone. Unbeatable annual family membership price. Things do get very busy at times but normally you will nearly have the ranges to yourself. Great place for a relaxing family vacation.

Imagine 30,000 beautiful acres in the shadow of the Sangre de Christo mountains, with 17 different shooting ranges, visitor housing and restaurant accommodations. and a gift shop that, in addition to clothing and souvenirs, sells guns and ammo. Deer and antelope stand by the side of the road and watch you drive by. And the NRA staff are the nicest, most helpful people you'd ever want to meet.

I knew people over the years who had attended events at the Whittington Center and I finally got a chance to stop by and visit. I was not disappointed with the quality and informative nature of the exhibits which were well displayed. Definitely worth a look if you are in the area.

Two of the nicest RV parks have ever been to. Open to the public. Beautiful gun ranges and museum/gift shop. Reasonable prices for all. 44000 acres of peace and quiet. Spent three days here. Sorry to leave. Full hookup RV spots but no cable TV. About 8 over the air channels. Tents sites, cabins, group homes, you name it. Bring your guns and have a good time.

Mainly used the shooting ranges, which in themselves are in good shape. A must see is the museum in the Admin Building. People are very friendly. Will be using the ranges alot while here.

I just got back from a guided hunt at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM. The guide, Mike, did an exemplary job guiding our hunt. The food and snacks that Becky and JD put together were incredible. But the real star of the show was the facility, itself. This 33,000 acre (52 sq. mi.) tract of land is so beautiful and tranquil. There are shooting ranges for every kind of gun imaginable, and yet they are so well spaced, you can go to your cabin, and never hear a gun go off. The facility is a combination of high country grasslands and rugged mountains. The historic Santa Fe Trail crosses through the property If you have never been to North Central New Mexico, you are in for a real treat. If you enjoy shooting sports of any type, you will surely enjoy the NRA Whittington Center. Add it to your "Bucket List" today.

Love to stay here when traveling between DENVER and Albuquerque. It is a very large shooting range with accommodations for overnight stays.

A great gun range and a fine curio shop is located at NRA
