We saw many Chachalacas eating the citrus; several green jays, redbirds, inca dove, rabbits and hummingbirds though was saw only turtles in the wetland area. It was a sweet place and we will visit again. The new building was very nice and the staff was very informative.

The kids love this place. It is a walk in nature that is easy for them to accomplish and learn a few things along the way. A map is available or you can wing it! Have fun out doors with the family! I am a frequent visitor and volunteer here. The staff is wonderful, informative, fun and friendly.

This was a pleasant surprise as it is housed in a very dated building. Nothing special out front, but behind it was well done with clearly marked trails and seating. The good news is that they are currently building a new, state of the art building next to the old one. It should be a great improvement.

This is just a great place especially for kids and people who cannot walk too far. Trails are generally easy (except by the wetlands), and wheelchair and stroller accessible. While I was there I saw a pie-toed chachalaca that is so rare I could not find it in bird guides by Sibley, Peterson, Crossley or Kaufman. Many butterflies were fluttering around and, many wildflowers and shrubs were in bloom. Feeding stations and butterfly logs are scattered throughout the area. Although only a six acre park with about a mile of trails, there is lots to see. Kids would enjoy the turtles and bunny rabbits as well and the whiptails that are everywhere as well as the visitor center. I thoroughly enoyed my visit, but someone with a lot of birding experience might want to spend their time at one of the larger World birding sites in the area (this is not World Birding site). I felt the admission fee was very reasonable ($3 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and $1 for children).

Tucked away in the corner of a city park are 3 acres (or so) operated by Weslaco parks & rec. as a natural history educational center with a good trail system. Birds here are easy to view along the trails or at feeders.New (still under construction in Jan. 201) are a photography blind and a beautiful nature center. Buff-bellied Hummingbirds are regularly seen.Red-crowned Parrots may be seen flying to roost in the late afternoon-early evening. Watch and listen for them in the parking lot in the park. The only drawback to the site is its pocket size. it's always worth a visit. Note the schedule:Monday: Closed
Tuesday-Friday: 9am-5pmSaturday: 8am-5pm
Sunday: 1pm-5pmClosed all Major Holidays.
