We decided to tour Texas -- from Houston to Dallas to San Antonio to Austin -- and thought that traveling by car from city to city would give us a bit of that extra Texas flavor. However, while there WERE horses and cows to be seen as we traveled, there were mostly chain restaurants. Where was scenic Texas? Well, it was with Cross G Ranch in Pipe Creek - a small town in The Hill Country just west of San Antonio and Austin. After a short, beautiful drive out we finally found the best part of our trip. Cross G Ranch is run by Ron and Nancy, a very friendly and professional husband and wife team. Prior to going, we had several questions for them, and their answers were always speedy and informative - e.g. what to wear, weather concerns, directions. Having only ridden once before almost two decades ago, us NYC guys felt a little bit like fish out of water; but, Ron and Nancy immediately put us at ease and made us feel comfortable. It looked like our original booking was going to be a rainy morning, and though Nancy said they could ride in a light rain, we opted for the next day. They were more than accommodating and understanding when we chose what happened to be a perfect morning. Nancy met us at the gate when we arrived and she and her husband Ron and the rest of the riding team couldn't have been more welcoming, personable, and knowledgeable. The horses were obviously well taken care of and you couldn't have asked for a better trail, filled with photo ops and an atmosphere and experience that you will remember forever. We also rode with Tim, Chris, Zach and Celine, and they made sure that we were all safe and gave us guidance on how to ride and have the ultimate Texas experience. We're glad we chose Cross G Ranch! -- Will and Tommy
