lightning ranch

We stay here almost everytime we are in the area. It's a working ranch. We always stay in the Texas log cabin. It's very comfortable and you have all the basic needs. There is even a pool which is nice in the evening. The homemade breakfast is always delicious!! We go horseback riding and it's a blast. It used to supply animals for all the movies filmed in Texas. Cool.

We traveled from San Antonio to see the rodeo they offer on Friday evenings. We were expecting it to be busy, but it was actually quite small. A lot of the people were locals.This is not a professional rodeo... they have locals who can sign up for the events, but it was still interesting to see. They had such events as bull riding, barrel racing, sheep chasing, etc. The best event was the diving aqua mule. Smokey is one of two diving aqua mules left in the country. She climbed to the top of this large ladder and jumped into a pool. It is really something to see. If you're in San Antonio and looking for something a little different, you might try this. It took about 50 minutes, and was inexpensive-- only $7.00 to get in. The drive up is beautiful.
