Jimmers2014
One of my favorite courses in Texas - or anywhere else. Too bad the sand traps are not up to the course's standards. They are full of rocks and I'm not talking pebbles. Sand is terrible and depth is erratic so forget about an explosion shot - you never know what might happen. There is also no clubhouse or 19th hole. Very disappointing.

Challenging course but beautiful and very fun to play. We used the regular tees and had a nice round of golf.

Two of our Executives arrived at the resort early and played the Ram Rock Course at the Horseshoe Bay Resort. They raved about the views this course had to offer, which says a lot coming from two Executives who play A LOT of golf.

Great course to identify the 2014 League Play Champions. Stern test of golf. Excellent playing conditions, thanks to recent rain. Excellent staff at the Cap Rock golf shop.

Ram Rock is an excellent golf course. Not too many years ago, it was ranked the hardest course in Texas. That's not true anymore, but it is still a challenge for any golfer.Anyone playing Ram Rock is advised to "play it forward." Play tees to give yourself a chance at the green. Played from the tips, it is a very hard course. Even from the forward tees, there are no easy holes, not one easy hole on the course, so you have to be on your game.Like Apple Rock, I won't give it 5 stars because the club house has not been rebuilt since the fire. There is only an outdoor 19th hole and a smallish pro shop.

Course conditioning deserves 4 stars, but I'm giving it 3 stars based upon the difficulty of the course. It's a course that will have you shoot 10 strokes higher than your handicap and I personally don't find that to be enjoyable. I'm a 7 handicap, didn't hit that ball that badly that day and still shot an 87. A handful of holes are just too penal for amateurs. Apple Rock is also difficult, but is a better choice for golfers who are not low single digit handicappers, in my opinion. Clubhouse for both courses is shared and suffered a catastrophic fire last fall, so food, beverages, golf balls, etc. are very limited. Eat before you get there and buy your golf balls ahead of time too, you'll need a couple of sleeves on these courses.
