The winter in south Texas has been a little on the wet and cool side and today's visit was a great use of our time. We parked in front of the museum and entered through the beautiful wooden doors into a large entry reception area. The museum is contained over 2 stories (but is accessible with an elevator). The exhibits begin in prehistoric times and you wind your way through the centuries of history in this area of Texas. The exhibits are interactive and a lot are great for the kids--trying on costumes of the era, picking oranges, trying out a saddle, looking through a periscope, and picture opportunities abound. The kids will also love the large wooly mammoth replica skeleton that is at the beginning of the exhibit. A thorough visit of this museum would take several hours or a couple of visits. It is a clean and well-organized museum using lighting, displays, music, and sounds to illustrate the history or the region. The original jail has been closed because of necessary repairs, but there is an exhibit in the main building with the history of the jail. There is also a garden area and a nice book/gift shop. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the MOST History. If you like history and geography, then this is the place for you. We certainly plan to go back!

This is a small, but well organized and very interesting museum. If you are visiting Texas' Rio Grande Valley, this is an attraction not to be missed.

This museum presents a nice overview of the history of the Rio Grande Valley. It's worth spending a couple of hours touring if you have an interest in this area.

I loved the interactive time period exhibits that allowed you to fit right in and take photos too!! There was small classrooms where you could watch a short informative film on the subject matter that was relevant. Definitely worth the small price of admission!!

We spent about two hours here one rainy afternoon. It is very helpful in understanding the history and culture of the area. It is nothing special, but the exhibits are nicely laid out and they are very informative. It is definitely worth a couple of hours. There is a disgusting jail exhibit as part of the museum. It is, however, easy to ignore and just skip.

This place has some Smithsonian quality displays. It does a fantastic job explaining the very long history of the Valley up to the present time. I encourage everyone to start there as a reference point to understanding the uniqueness of the valley.

They really give you a chance to LEARN new things here. Interact! We had a great time at their Dia De Los Muertos festival. Music , food and fun. Be sure to join us next time ;)

My wife and I enjoy Museums and I especially am interested in history. The Edinburg historical museum is one of the finest museums in the valley. If you enjoy valley history, which is a fascinating mix of both American and Mexican history, you will love this museum. It has a lot of great exhibits and is housed in the old court house, a beautiful and exiting place to see/

Everything is well done, complete, and accurate. Plan on spending four or five hours for a great overview of South Texas. Better yet, return to really dig into the history.

Everything All the displays were very interesting. There was lots to see. We put on dated clothing eg sombrero and cape and sat on a donkey for photos. The people running the museum were very helpful, too. It was about 35 miles from where we were staying, but it was worth the drive.

This is a great museum with many wonderful historical displays. Its a nice way to spend an afternoon. I filled out a comment log on the way out and I want to share with you what needs improving. We found some of the lighting too dim, some of the type explaining what we were looking at, too small to be legible, and had a hard time proceeding chronologically through the display as there is no direction to proceed to the next display. My advice would be to follow a senior citizen through the place and take some notes and then make some improvements. Don't let these comments keep you from visiting.

The musuem hosts an awesome Dia De Los Muertos celebration every year. The all day event is full of fun activities like decorating your own skull and purchasing jewelery. There is also plenty of Mexican food and desserts to buy while you enjoy music and dance performances from local groups.

We were visiting relatives in Harlingen, TX and decided to tour this museum. It was well worth the trip! If you are lucky enough to get a tour guide to take you around the museum as we were, you will enjoy it even more. The guide that we had, shared different facts and pointed out things that you may not have even noticed otherwise. The museum tells the story of the valley through history and how it developed. It was very interesting and well worth the trip. There is also a gift store in the museum. It was about an hour and a half tour. If you are interested in history, it is a "not to miss" attraction.

This museum had a very clear history of the area with the influence of the Spanish, Mexico, Anglo's etc.The exhibit was interactive in the sense that when you approached areas sounds or films were played. This added to the experience but sometimes was confusing. The jail which is one of the highlights was closed due to renovation and the exhibit instead was disappointing.Overall an enjoyable hour..
