I was looking for a restaurant and stumbled into the Colorado River Winery. The Vintenor, Brad, was there and so easy going that I decided to purchase a wine tasting before continuing my search for a good restaurant. I love red wines and Brad had plenty of those, but he also had white wines and dessert wines. We chatted as I enjoyed his tastings and I found that he had been learning about wines and experimenting with them since his teen years. However as Brad explained, he grew up in the Carolina's and not texas ( thus learning to make wines in his teens). I wasn't planning on buying a bottle because I was on a business trip but the Cabernet was calling my name. Before I left, Brad told me to try the restaurant next door. I had not even seen the Piney Creek Chop a house. I would highly recommend Brad, his winery and the whole atmosphere of historical downtown, Bastrop, Texas.

We stopped into the Colorado River Winery on the MLK holiday. As a side note, MLK day may be the only occasion when the City of Bastrop does not have a parade. We stayed for a tasting and purchased a couple glasses of wine. The wine is very good and the owners provide excellent conversation. The winery is located in a great old building downtown but it is a half block off main street so you may have to look for it. The visit will be well worth your time. My wife bought a few gift items and felt the pricing was better than what she saw at other shops in town. I just know I had an excellent glass of wine and I am glad I stopped.

We do know the owners some but even if we did not we would highly recommend this very neat winery in Bastrop on Chestnut St. It is a beautifully decorated and quiet environment to have a nice conversation and some very tasty wine made right on location. It is a super addition to what is already a very nice downtown area for Bastrop. Super place to stop before or after a meal in one of the restaurants in Bastrop. Host/owners Brad and Sylvia are very friendly and knowledgeable on wines. Sylvia also has added some nice gifts to buy at the winery like jewelry, wine accessories, garden items, etc. They also have a nice patio are in back outside.

Charming proprietor Brad serves up Texas wines in a lovely little tasting room in the cool town of Bastrop. Tastings are $7 for four choices and there is a good variety. There are eclectic shops and fun restaurants here, well worth a stop between Houston and Austin.
