History and old building make for enloyable visit. Great location on the river. We normally do several of the plantation on the river. A great day trip.

Unfortunately...this review does not allow me to put in the date I actually last visited...but I had my wedding there in June 2002. It is no longer open to the public...and I thought that was important for people to know...if planning on visiting. It was one of the few plantations that actually allowed you to have your wedding guests INSIDE the house (important on a warm June day)! the period furnishings were wonderful. It was as beautiful on the outside as it was in the inside. Gardens were lovely. Magnificent back porch with gorgeous curved double stairwell/fountain. There was a boat dock to the James River. So sad it's no longer open to the public, as I had booked my wedding there...with full intentions of returning on my 10 year anniversary (this year)...with our children...so they could see where mommy & daddy had their wedding reception. Oh well. Thank goodness for photographs!
