It was a rainy day but the folks at Peaks of Otter Winery made it a great visit! When we were making our arrangements to go, we spoke to Danny at least 3 times on the phone. He was helpful in making sure someone was going to be available for Us to try their wines. When we arrived, there was a couple from Florida in mid-tasting. We brought in our cheese/crackers, looked around (inside & outside) and waited for our turn. We interacted with Andy, Sarah, Shannon, Josh and, eventually had our tasting with, Wayne (Even Pepper the dog was friendly) Everyone of them was helpful, informative and friendly! The tasting was a great experience ... Wayne is truly in his element as he shares the wines & his knowledge of their creation. We had a blast and plan on going back in the spring, when the orchard and grounds are coming to life. No matter how far off course Bedford will take you, it is worth the trip!!! ENJOY!

Very friendly place with a great variety of wines. It's always fun to taste and explore the grounds. A lot of photo opportunities with the farm animals and the natural scenery. You won't be disappointed if you visit. We tend to spend about $100 each time we visit on wines even though I'm not a big wine drinker. The wines are that good!!!!

Peaks of Otter offers many many many different fruit wines. Most are sweet but they do offer some dry wines as well. It's a little off the beaten path but a fun and different twist to most other wineries. Two wines made from peppers. Kiss the devil is made from 30 different peppers. WOW! It needs a chaser. Definitely something for everyone here. $4 will get you a glass and lots of tastings.

We stopped here.It is a very unique winery off of Route 460 in Virginia. It's kind of off the main road. The tasting were very tasty and some had a different flavor. One of them was very spicy. They said many people bought it just to clear their sinus. It definitely would. The peole working here were also very unique but quite friendly and knowledgeable.

I was in Bedford, VA, so I thought I would check out the Peaks of Otter Winery. For four dollars you got to sample their wine and keep a glass of your choice. They were not stingy on the sample size, and there were tons of wine to sample. They had a variety of sweetness levels, and since they have an apple orchard, many of the wines were from apples. They sold more than wine in their shop. They also had jams, peanuts, wine holders, corks, etc. They did not sell food from a menu, so there wasn't any kind of dining atmosphere. Also, I didn't notice an area where you could buy a bottle of wine and sit at a picnic table and drink it. The most surprising thing was that they are dog friendly. So, a couple people brought their pouches in there too. The tasting room is big, so a single dog in the place would practically be unnoticed. If I was back in the Bedford area, I would definitely return here to visit.

So we were headed toward Lynchburg on VA 460, saw the signs and decided to stop. Took us about 20 min to get there but we spent almost 2 hours so it was worth the sidetrip. Unlimited tasting for $4 is the way to go since the have so many wines to try plus you get a glass to take home. These wines are not for the connoissiuer but are different and fun. Most are fruit flavored but a few unusual ones including a pepperjack (it's actually hot like a pepper), a Mojito (very minty) and a Pumpkin Pie tasting wine lend themselves to options beyond just being a sipping wine. I plan to add the Pumpkin Pie to mulled apple cider for an adult beverage for the holidays. The young lady pouring for our tasting was very friendly and helpful despite the fact that they were very busy. The winery is located in an orchard so they had just picked peaches and apples for sale as well. Outside was the best. Recommend you bring a picninc lunch to enjoy with a bottle of wine; you can sit on one of the porches or on the grass and enjoy the fantastic panoramic view while you eat and sip. And did I mention they are pet friendly? Dogs are welcome in the tasting building. They even had fresh bowls of water just for dogs to enjoy. There were several dogs our girl got to meet, including one orchard resident. For a side trip it doesn't get any better than this.

The Peaks of Otter winery is nestled in the foothills of the Peaks. It is on a vast, gorgeous property with areas for the whole family. Wine tasting inside, apple trees, fun signs and statues for photo-ops and animals for the kids. Their wine is unique and delicious, made from various fruits with countless awards to show for it. Try the Kiss the Devil and chili dog wines, quite an experience.

Peaks of Otter Winery is situated in the middle of the family orchard, not really at Peaks of Otter but close. The building appears to have been built as a tractor shed originally and then turned into a winery attraction. The show for the tasting is on a rather primitive arrangement of rough cut boards along the tops of barrels. The wines were almost all sweet fruity wines with some very interesting wines thrown in that could be for cooking, I think. While I like sweet wines, if I'm going to drink wine, almost everything they had was like fruit juice with a punch. We approached from the Shenandoah Valley and our GPS took us over the mountain on a road that continued to narrow after the pavement stopped, one of the switchbacks was so tight I had to back up to get around the turn.I seriously doubt we will go there again.
