Happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed your visit! Occasionally we do have folks break the no smoking rule. We will make a better effort to do spot checks to ensure the cave remains smoke free. If it happens again, please don't hesitate to bring it to our attention and we'll address the issue. We hope that we'll see you and your family again soon!

we stopped in to check out the cave actually thought the winery was in the cave but it was at the top of the hill, 5.00 wine samples and got to keep the glass which was a good deal didnt like the idea that you had to purchase a bottle of wine to be able to go down to the cave which I thought was kind of ridiculous but thats ok I bought a bottle just to go check it out it was nice but nobody was even down there, probably would never return

We drove here in January and the ice on the roads made it difficult for a southerner (not used to that type of weather) to access. With plenty of hills and turns, the drive there was slow and nerve-wracking but easy to find nonetheless. One other group was there and they were friendly as was the lady behind the bar. She told us we could walk down the path and check out the cave and buy a wine bottle or pay a small fee for a tasting. We opted for the tasting first to warm our bodies for the trek down the incline to the cave. Then we purchased a bottle of wine and got some glasses and a bottle opener with the intention of drinking it in the cave. The walk down was fairly steep and icy (not recommended for the elderly or those with problems walking) and the cave was... well, a cave. One room with not much to see except a few tables and barrels. It was too cold to stay down there so we opted to walk back up. A climb for those who are out of shape!

We were sorry to hear that your visit to our family's winery did not live up to your expectations. We recently launched our new website and your feedback is appreciated. The fact that our cave is located directly underneath our winery and tasting room is not something that we intended to hide. We hope that you will come visit again and enjoy our award winning wines while picnicking inside the Cave.

Of the many wineries in this area, we found this to be the best. Great chocolate, very nice wine. You can buy a bottle of wine and they will give you the glasses, uncork it, and send you on a ride in a golf cart down a rather steep road to the mouth of a cave. There you will find a nice patio with tables right outside to sit out and enjoy your wine. We brought some food to spread out and had a feast. You can also walk into the cave and take a seat at one of the many tables inside the cave to enjoy the wine. Lots of fun.

We've been there a number of times, often bringing friends and relatives. Was there yesterday. Always friendly people. Wines are nice, but are boutique prices (all the wineries are like that). Great places to sit indoors and outdoors with a nice view from the pavillion. The cave itself is a treat, especially in the hot humid Missouri summers! Before the Strussiones bought it we explored the cave back as far as we could crawl; it starts with a huge entrance then quickly narrows and lowers. The owners had some excavation work done to create a small pond and different levels for seating. A nice place to go for live music or fundraisers for the public radio station -- check the winery's website for dates. New this year: during the week you must walk to and from the cave; the shuttle is only operating on weekends. Not a big deal, although the steep walk back up might be tough after too much wine! :-) Oh, and this is one of the only wineries in the area open on Mondays. You can bring a picnic basket -- no alcohol -- or buy various snacks at the wine tasting ($5.00 per person gets you 5 samples and a wine glass). You do need to buy a bottle of wine to visit the cave.

Thanks for the tip regarding wet paper bags! We'll be sure to offer plastic to those folks taking their wine down to the cave. Glad you enjoyed your visit!

We are sorry to hear that the stop at our family's winery was not what was expected. Most disappointing is that you were told that the cave is man made. Our saltpeter cave is completely natural. We have done very little to deviate from its natural state. In addition, we do in fact host events inside the cave, some private, some open to the public.
