I know many people who bike out from Madison to this park which is about 30 miles. Others will drive there and use the paths for the daily run. This is a rustic park and does not have a lot of facilities. The other negative it is rustic and true landscape of WI including the thick swarms of mosquitoes! Take repellant!!!!!

Frequent this lovely park for the beautiful dog area. A 1/2 mile past the park entrance is the off leash area where your dog can swim in the lake as well as walk along the perimeter. Early Sunday morning is a great time to go!

My wife and I joined our daughter and her husband for a picnic here on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. What a great spot! First of all, we enjoyed the short drive from Madison to Indian Lake County Park- the road curved around beautiful farm fields surrounded by wooded hills. We had a nice picnic on the side of a hill overlooking the lake and enjoyed seeing many types of birds. After we ate, drank, and napped a little, we hiked to the top of the highest hill overlooking the lake to a small chapel that was built in 1857. The chapel was interesting and the view from the end of the trail at the top was very nice. The hike was well worth the time and energy required. There are lots of trails for hiking and cross country skiing. You can check out the park- part of the Dane County system but we don't recall any water available. So my advice is bring some water [to be safe] and come and enjoy this great county park.
