Old store filled with antiques and Route 66 items. They will fix you a sandwich from the cut and slice meat case like the old days. Fun stop.

There are two parts to this stop, an old country store that has been here since about the time the Mother Road came through. The first is the general store/deli section, where you can get groceries, deli sandwiches made on the spot, and various other "Sundries". The other section is chock full of Route 66 knick knacks for yourself and the folks back home. I'd stop in even if it weren't on the old road, since it takes me back to what country stores used to be like when I was a kid.The older gentleman running the place asked me where I was from, and then told me he didn't think they allowed folks from North Carolina out there. I told him there was a quota in place and we just barely made it. He and the younger gentleman were both friendly, as were most all the folks we met on our trip along the road. It's not a big flashy place, and you need to keep an eye out for it, but it's well worth the time to stop in and grab a little snack.So hit the brakes when you come through Riverton, pull on over and tell the folks hello. Grab a soda for the road and as always, Happy motoring!

Step back in time to this old store on Route 66. Pick up a fresh, handmade sandwich for lunch, groceries or beautiful flowers & more. The atmosphere alone is worth the stop. Great people & locally owned by the same family for many years.

I can not believe the Old Riverton Store aka Eisler Bros Market has flown under the Trip Advisor radar. It is has been here forever (1925?) and on the National Registry. This is a Route 66 must stop place. This is your general store, corner market from yesteryear. I have stopped several times over the past 7 yrs. and love the place. You can stop, step back in time and have a sandwich made to order. My wife and I each had a roast beef with cheese made our own way. They were $3.40 each. Yes, just $3.40 each. The highest price sandwich. These would be $6-$7 sandwiches in the city. My wife could only eat half of hers. Everyone is friendly and very helpful. Along with being a general store , they have a room of Route 66 souvenirs. Whether you are doing Route 66 or not, you need to stop. Visit with Scott. He is a true 66 ambassador. Uno dei posti più piacevoli della mia vita. Piccolissimo store appena fuori Galena, entrando in Kansas percorrendo la Route 66, gestito da un arzillo 92enne di simpatia unica, che ti offre il caffè e ti prepara sandwich con qualunque cosa tu voglia in pochi minuti, che puoi mangiare nel piccolo patio con vista sulle verdissime campagne del Kansas. Strapieno di cianfrusaglie e souvenir della Route 66, di prodotti tipici Usa (compresa la tomato soup Campbell nel barattolo di Andy Warhol), merita molto più di una piccola sosta

Per chi si trova sulla route 66 al confine tra Kansas e Missouri merita fermarsi al Nelson's Old Riverton Store per acquistare qualche ricordino o assaggiare un sandwich.L'eventuale visitatore non deve attendersi un museo o qualcosa di eclatante, è semplicemente un piccolo "store" storico della route 66, la cui struttura è rimasta identica a quella che aveva al momento della sua apertura nel 1925. Solo al vederlo vengono in mente le immagini relative agli anni della grande crisi americana dove la route 66, probabilmente polverosa, veniva percorsa da molte persone che andavano a cercare maggiore fortuna verso ovest. Queste per ristorarsi o comprare il necessario si fermavano in questi "store" presenti lungo la route 66. Chissà che qui non vi siano passati anche Bonnie and Clyde , dato che si erano nascosti per molto tempo nella vicina Joplin.La porta di ingresso, credo originale, si richiude da sola con un sistema artigianale, basato su contrappeso che viene sollevato all'apertura e che scendendo la richiude. Entrando si fa un salto indietro nel tempo di quasi un secolo. L'ambiente è piccolo ma dentro c'è veramente di tutto disposto con il giusto disordine. Qua e la gigantografie di attori famosi . La bilancia sembra originale con l'ago che si muove sotto l'azione dei pesi. All'ingresso la cassa con il gestore, un gentile signore, non più giovane, che mi ha permesso, nonostante fossi straniero, di fotografare il negozio e fare una foto ricordo con lui.Ho visitato questo posto a metà gennaio 2014, ma penso sia più bello in primavera ed estate quando le piante attorno hanno le foglie ed i fiori.In sintesi non è un'attrazione da vedere a tutti i costi, ma per chi è nelle vicinanze merita andare a mangiare un sandwich in questo posto.Mauro Peselli
