It was a nice sized museum for a tiny town, but I kept seeing the same concrete with pieces of colored glass in it. There were a few different things, but I think "folk art" itself is really just for the creators hobby and not for being oh and ahhed at. Of course you could say I "just don't appreciate art" and look down at me. But if this were in a larger museum it'd be ignored. Or maybe incredibly admired as a couple of Campbell's soup cans can be.

You can easily spend a day in Lucas or more. We had a wonderful tour of the Grassroots Art Center and my daughters definitely left with an appreciation for all art. There was even an interactive game that they were able to play.

The gal was a bit pushy and would not let us even look in rooms. She allowed us to look only while she was there and she was getting ready to leave. I'm sorry, but art is only sold if we the buyers can see it!

Well worth the stop, but a bit pricey for the tour. Some of the art is phenomenal and it all is thought-provoking, although I found some to be just strange! Extremely knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. The stonework outside is beautiful!

This is a great folk art museum located "nearly" in the middle of nowhere Kansas. They are doing great things to support the art form and artists locally. The docents will give you a tour and even show you some of the locations around town. Along with the Garden of Eden, the Grassroots Center makes Lucas a hot spot for self taught art. Trust me, you'll be amazed at some of the stuff in their collection - it's world class.

Here in rural small town America is a museum honoring and exhibiting outsider art from the area. All these people had an inner need to do what they did- they were lucky enough to have this museum to showcase their output.Rosslyn does a great job in celebrating the amazing creativity and energy this at form exudes.DO NOT MISS THIS- COMBINE IT WITH GARDEN OF EDEN A FEW BLOCKS AWAY

This turned out to be my favorite area in Kansas and this museum was a big part of that. Be sure to take the guided tour as the docent will make the visit interesting and fun. Allow five hours for this town as there are quite a few things to see. You can also stay for lunch in between sites. A sweet, funky unexpected surprise of a town. We even ended up buying a cool piece of art.

The whole town really seems to embrace Outsider Art. This museum preserves the work of many folk artists from a historical angle, as well as encouraging new work. The tour includes the museum, an outside exhibit on Post Rock Limestone, and a visit to a working artist's studio. A lot of bang for your buck.

My daughter lives in Lucas & I like to visit several times a year. I like to see the different ideas, with the unusual items used for the pieces.

This is a great place to find the 'out of the ordinary' arts and crafts. By no means will you be seeing what you've seen in every other artsy-fartsy center. The artists here are self-taught (thus 'grassroots') and many are farmers who hone their craft during 'down-time' in the cold winter months. You won't be sorry you visited!

Great enthusiasm of the staff and very unique art. Shows what can happen when someone watches their internal movie and gives concrete expression to it.

Great attraction that goes hand in hand with the 'Garden of Eden'...lots of very talented artists on display here. Definately is NOT a dull stroll through the local art gallery!

I visited the Grassroots Arts Center in Lucas, KS back in 2003, and was recently reminded of that trip when I saw the "Rare Visions--Detour Art" show in Kansas City at the Belger Arts Center.Grassroots is a jewel. It is part of a growing community of arts lovers who realize that you don't have to be trained in art to be creative, or to have valid things to say in visual form. Many of these artists are not fully understood or appreciated by those around them. I came away from my visit feeing creatively recharged, and eager to learn more about this varied and unexpected kind of artwork. I think anyone who loves art, has an open mind, and appreciates spirited creativity will be amply rewarded by a trip to Lucas and the Grassroots Arts Center.

I have been going to the Grassroots Art Center ever since I was little and every time I go it seems that they have something new. Every visit varies, but it is always worth the tour, because the art they have there is unique and awesome to look at. Also Lucas the town it self is very interesting just like the Art Center, it is definitely worth the time to go and look at!

The Grassroots Art Center has assembled the works of self- taught artist from across the state of Kansas. Expect the unexpected from outdoor yard environments to interior exhibits created from limestone, wood, metal, pull-tabs, and chewing gum. It's a one-of-a-kind place. Worth the trip!
