It had been years since I went to Malabar Farms, so last Sunday we went. The weather was beautiful and the drive is spectacular. We went on both tours (the house and the farm). The "combo ticket" is only $5. I would have paid more. The house is amazing and the tour guide was great. In case you don't know this was built by Louis Bromfield (Pulitzer Prize winning author) and also where Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart were married and spent their honeymoon. There were even two pictures painted by Grandma Moses. Pretty amazing!! The farm tour was on a tractor pulled wagon with the same tour guide. We stopped at the "Shawshank Tree". They shot The Shawshank Redemption in Mansfield and the surrounding area. Each tour lasts about an hour each. There are also some amazing trails in the State Park. Check the website for times. They change by season. It is well worth the time and money

Malabar farm is an excellent park with lots of different activities. Of course you need to do the farm and house tour, but don't forget that there are trails and other things to experience.Be sure to check out the Butternut trail towards the south of the park where you can see Pugh cabin which is featured in the Shawshank Redemption movie. There's also an awesome cave on the trail - you can enter from the front, climb through, and exit in the back on top!TIP #1: If going on the house or farm tour, be sure to make a bee-line to the visitor center gift shop where you need to purchase tickets and get on the list. If you are too late the tour could be full and you will have to wait until the next tour.TIP #2: You can get a combo ticket for the farm and house tour and save $1.

Since we were in the area, we stopped here. Didn't know it was a State Park. Beautiful property. Did some looking around & did some shopping in the gift shop....the fudge is very good & made there. We were not that impressed by the farm...but that is because we have Lake Farmpark near us, in Kirtland Ohio, and so that is the standard we were judging by.To us, it pales in comparison to Lake Farm Park.

My family and I enjoyed the wagon tour of the grounds, as well as the tour of Bromfield's home. What a neat piece of history! It was beautiful there. We didn't get a chance to check out the hiking trails, but the grounds were beautiful, so I'm sure they were lovely. All the park workers were very friendly.

We had an excellent tour guide named Tom Bachelder who knew his info regarding Bogie, Bacall, and Bromfield. The tour wasn't rushed, but time seemed to fly by quickly with all the information Mr. Bachelder shared. He made the history of the home come alive. (Be sure to ask him who the famous person was who designed the wallpaper in the telephone room!) Excellent, informative tour. Highly recommended. Don't forget to leave a donation that will go directly to serve this wonderful farm!

Visited fun days with my grandson and his friend. Loved the games and fishing derby. Want to go back next year. I toured Louis Bromfield's"Big House" and loved it.

This is a neat park to visit. It is a working farm, and they offer wagon rides out through some of the fields as well as tours of the large farmhouse. The wagon ride is $2 per person and the farmhouse tours are $4 per person. You can do both tours for the discounted price of $5 per person. Each tour was approximately 1 hour long. The tours might run a bit longer depending on the guide and the number of questions they are asked. The house contains much of the furniture that belonged to the original owner. However, the original owner believed the furnishings were meant to be enjoyed, the furnishing are far from pristine. You can tour the barn and see the animals for free. There is also a small visitor center with several interactive exhibits about the area and the farm. They also have picnic tables and flush toilet facilities. This was a nice place to spend an afternoon.

Nice ride from Ashland and a great meal. The Restaurant is a classic and the outdoor dinning is a great way to enhance the meal experience. Our waiter was excellent and the owner was on site. Tip. . .get there early!

Who knew that Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart were married in Lucas, OH!! And this is the place. Wonderful place to visit, walk through the house, see the animals, you can even fish in the small pond. Great for kids as well, though I was there on a business trip.. Walking trails as well.

The home is interesting and beautiful. The Bromfield family has quite a history. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married in the home. It is a 914 acre farm. We also took a wagon ride there but it was mostly just riding through farm fields. That part was not too interesting.

This was my first time as an adult going during festival time. Wow, has it grown! It was very busy the day that we went, so the wait to do different things could have been better, but still wasn't bad! The horse/wagon ride back was great, got a lot of pictures! Everyone seemed very knowledgeable and helpful...We had fun and 9 yr old learned a lot about making maple syrup. We'll be back!

We visited Malabar to tour the Bromfield House on a cold Sunday afternoon. Tickets are four dollars for adults and tours are offered several times a day and only on the weekends in the winter months. Check their website before visiting. Tickets are purchased in the gift shop/visitors center. There are restrooms located in this building as well as several different exhibits about the farm. The lady we purchased tickets from told us we could walk the farm or visit the barn before our tour. We did both, but it was much too cold and windy to stay outside very long. The house is large and took about an hour and fifteen minutes to tour. Our tour guide did a great job and even talked about the ghost hunting show that had visited the previous year and shared some stories. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married in the house and stayed for their honeymoon. Many other celebrities of that time visited the house and the guide shared some great stories. If you watch older movies you would probably recognize a lot of the names. The house was definitely lived in and is not as immaculately kept as other homes we have visited. It was kind of like the owners just stepped out for a bit; which is kind of neat because it shows you the home as it truly was. I liked that we didn’t feel rushed through the tour and our guide was very accommodating to questions. I’d like to come back in the summer and take their guided farm tour on the wagon and walk the trails. If you’re in the area I would recommend a visit.

I visited Malabar Farm last December. The place is very nice, great landscape in the hills of Pleasant Valley, wonderful short hikes in the woods, the farm is nice, but the most interesting for me was the Big House - the home of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield. The house is really like a time capsule - you enter and you feel like going back in the first half of the last century - everything is preserved and just amazing, you feel the spirit of the place! Also interesting trivia: Bromfield hosted Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's wedding and honeymoon at Malabar Farm. Highly recommended!

This is a cool little working farm. There are several really good short hikes and if you go in the fall you are sure to see plenty of deer.

We began our time at Malabar farm with the museum, very interesting and informative. Quite the vision of farming/food. Our tour of the mansion at Malabar farm took us back in time. It being the Christmas season, had the farm blanketed in snow. We were greeted with carolers as we entered the house. The guides really enjoy talking about the place and the history of the famous people who lived or were guests there. This is an interesting tour that you can take at your own pace. We were intrigued to find the house holds two original Grandma Moses paintings! The large collection of books is interesting as well. Our tour ended with hot mulled cider and cookies. Be sure and eat at the Malabar Farm Restaurant, the atmosphere, food and service are all great!
