Thanks to all the previous reviewers - you were the reason that my husband and I hunted up the Fig Tree on a recent trip to Brown County. What a truly excellent vist. The owners, Glenn and Thomi were very kind and hospitable. Since I wanted to try the items that the other reviewers mentioned as being excellent, we were fortunate to be there when the Kenya AA was featured (various coffees are featured daily) and we loved it. We also shared a slice of Thomi's carrot cake that was incredibly moist and tasty - not to mention quite large. It was a rainy July morning and Glenn had some time to chat with us and make us feel very comfortable and welcome. We enjoyed his conversation and knowlege of Kenya and our subsequent walk among the African art works. I cannot say enough about this gem that is just outside of Nashville (a very quaint touristy town), and hope to return specifically to enjoy another magical visit. May this little oasis thrive as it is a great place to sit unhurried and enjoy a cuppa! Thomi even chased us down as we were leaving to return the umbrella we forgot! I've attached a picture of the front and back of the Fig Tree - you park in the back near some interesting looking fire engines!

I drove by the business for several years going back and forth to work before I even knew it was there. You park in the back. But what a unique place! African coffee and artwork, entertainment on Thursdays, the only wireless internet around, and (occasionally) live local theater too. The second floor is all about Lord of the Rings and Star Trek. Eat before you go, as they only serve deserts and snacks with the coffee (or specialty coffee drinks and sodas). Try the frozen drinks, like the Kicking Gorilla. Don't stay too long though, or the owner will have you on the fire department - he's the local chief.

I have visited the Figtree gallery many times and I'm never disappointed. No matter the season, there's always a reason to stop in for the great coffee, beautiful artwork, and to enjoy the plethora of entertainment. The owners, Glenn and Thomi Elmore are courteous, friendly, and work hard to provide their patrons with a wonderful experience. The gallery is exquisite with paintings from Vijaya Kalyan, Craig Bone, Stephen Cale, and others. The coffee is incredible . . .I suggest everyone try the Kenya AA. If coffee isn't your thing, don't despair, the Figtree Gallery is well-known for their Gorilla Freeze. Plus, the Figtree is located in Helmsburg, a beautiful and serene part of Indiana. In San Diego, California, where I reside, there is truly a coffee shop on every corner. It's great when you're in a rush, don't care what the coffee tastes like, and don't need the pleasantries. But, if you're looking for a pituresque location that will forever remain on your top ten favorite places to go, don't miss the Figtree.Drew Silver

For a great cup of coffee in excellent surroundings you must try the FigTree. But even better than that was the hospitality offered by the proprietors, Glenn and Thomi. For a real treat ask for the Lucky Charm Latte - very unique, and the carrot cake - delicious. I found the atmosphere to be very warm and friendly and a great place to sit and relax. I felt like I stumbled across a treasure hidden in the country. The art gallery atmosphere is unique for a coffee shop. I bought a painting there that I just love. It now hangs over my fireplace. I've gone back to see some of their Thursday evening live music and usually enjoyed the talent. A very warm and friendly crowd. You don't have to pay, just enjoy your coffee. If you're in the area of Brown County it is well worth the trip to partake of the FigTree.

It's not an easy or obvious place to find, hidden as it is in the tiny town of Helmsburg, Indiana. Yet, for those lucky ones that experience the Fig Tree Gallery and Coffee Shop it's more than worth the trip! This is a haven of enlightenment, offering something for nearly every taste, from the extensive African Art collection to the live jazz/blues/folk or ?? entertainment to the incredible collection of recent science fiction/fantasy memorabilia on the second floor. You can browse through and purchase unique artifacts, books by select local authors, wonderful coffees and cakes...even your own 'Figgie' shirt. The owner/operators are delightful people, and everyone is treated with warmth, courtesy and good humor. I am a regular visitor, and I drive a very long way to get there. There is no denying it--this place is special. It's a diamond gleaming in the wilds of Helmsburg.

They make you feel welcome soon as you come in the door. Alotof locals in there, but they make you feel like one of them.Coffee is excellent and wonderful homemade desserts. Nice tosit around and take in the Art. They have alot of Jigsaw Puzzles on the wall that patrons have put together, anyone iswelcome to join in. They have Music on Thursdays, by localBands & other groups. Some thursday nights standing room only. They put on Plays a few times a year.Cleanest restrooms I've seen. Miss them when they close in winter. On St.Patricks Daythey have quite a get together, with Bag Pipers and Knightshaving fights outside. Sort of off the beaten path, but wellworth it. Once you come, you'll be back.
