Finally made it to the Peninsula Museum of Art! We went for the Holiday Open house. Since I had never been before, I had no idea what to expect. The Museum part is very small, modern place but the rest of the buildings contain artists studios and those were really really cool to go through and talk to artists and other Museum goers! First off, the building is on a very busy corner of El Camino Real and Trousdale in Burlingame, but the entrance is in the back, away from the corner. There are two drive way entrances, one on Trousdale and the other on California. In between the two driveways is the Burlingame Police Department. Try not to drive into the Police Department Parking lot like I did! There is plenty of off street parking! The front entrance is handicap accessible, and there were benches and places for my handicap acquaintance to sit and rest. There was an art library with chairs and a table. (not sure if there was an elevator, but there are stair and an upper floor but first floor is accessible. Also a little gift shop with a nice stock of products from the artists who rent the studios. Many of the Artists also teach classes in their studios. I spoke at great length to a woman who teaches realistic drawing and also a milliner,! I am looking forward to taking classes there. Call ahead for hours. Or try to go for an open house. There always an open house in May and near the end of the year. Check the web site for details. I would think this would be a great place to bring kids for a quick taste of art and a great place to bring them for the open house!
