Be sure to stop in at the Summit ranger station at Pinecrest junction on highway 108 to get a map, check the road conditions, and detailed directions. It is not hard to get to but off the road aways. After all of the severe thunderstorms this year, you might need a high clearance vehicle or 4 wheel drive depending on the road conditions. Like i said inquire at the ranger station before going or you might be disappointed. The tree itself doesn't look all of that big until you get next to it. The scientists best estimate of its age is 4-6000 years old. Stop for conversation with the caretaker. He's an interesting guy and has been caring for the tree 20+ years.

Be sure to get careful driving instructions and then take a scenic journey through the Sierra to this out of the way, not much visited, very old tree. Ponder why this tree has lived so long at this very site. If around, chat with the caretaker, an interesting man.
