create, mix and mingle

I was looking for something fun to do with my group of eight in the San Mateo area when I came across Create Mix and Mingle on TripAdvisor. It's a lovely studio and we had the best time! The owner, Deb, was so great and is a wonderful host. There was a kids' party going on in the next room but it was very quiet and we didn't even notice it going on. Deb allowed us to bring our own snacks and to set up early before our session. The paint lesson was great for all skill levels. It was the perfect outing to celebrate with good friends.

I've gone to 2 painting classes in the past month and will be going again next week with a group of friends! Create, Mix & Mingle is a fun way to enjoy a night out with the girls or your significant other! There is a bar with a good selection of beer, wine and light snacks (nuts,pretzels, candy, etc.) for purchase. There are also classes for "all ages", (alcohol is not served during these classes), so the entire family can participate! Everything is provided for the painting: instructor, canvas, paint, brushes, etc. The owners, Angie & Deb, are warm and welcoming, and the paint instructors are fun and supportive! The instructors paint the picture along with you, and take the time to walk around and give advice. Here's how it works:Go to their website and click on the calendar. Choose a painting you would like to do and sign up!On the night/day of your class, be sure to get there at least 15 mins early to allow time to get your beverage and/or snacks and mingle. The instructor will advise you on putting together your paints on a pallet. Choose a seat and get ready to paint! The instructor will lead you step by step through the entire painting process. Prior painting experience is not necessary! At the end you have a beautiful masterpiece that you created!

My friend and I were in town from Australia visiting family and were taken to Create Mix and Mingle for the Sunday brunch session. Such a great relaxing environment, delicious mimosas (and other drinks available- tea, coffee, juices, wines- you name it!) with the most lovely owners and wonderful artists to help guide you through re-creating a work of art. No prior art skills are necessary as they really break down the painting step by step. So if you ever wanted to paint but didn't know where to start, this is your opportunity! Everyone's paintings come out different but all looking like true works of art. Overall, the perfect experience if you want to stray from the typical "tourist" activity and want something with a local warm welcoming feel. Very jealous of those that live in the area and get to have regular nights at the studio. Will definitely be recommending it to everyone looking to visit the area in the future!! X
