We decided to take a couple of train rides this Fall and this was one of them. The drive out was pretty scenic in NH with color in good shape. It was less colorful in VT and on this ride, but a good outing nonetheless. The ride was comfortable and the host commentary was good, but (as another reviewer has mentioned) hard to hear. The train ride left from the Chester Depot and there were good views from both sides of the rail car.

I got my tickets on a PBS auction, so I wasn't sure what to expect. We got on in Chester to ride to and from Rockingham. It was a lovely trip through the mountains - long enough to relax and enjoy it but not so long that it got tiresome. The conductors were friendly and knowledgable. If you go, take your own food. The snack bar options were sparse, and they ran out of things quickly. There were others who brought coolers on to the train, they were probably returning riders. next time will be better prepared, but a lack of snacks did not detract from our lovely trip. Also, this isn't the easiest train to access if you're mobility-challenged. Unlike other touring trains, I didn't see an elevating or ramp-style platform.

We relaxed on this 2 hour trip up and back the Vermont countryside. The foilage here was still not quite colorful yet. This was the first day of the fall trip. We really just saw VT countryside which was nice sitting back to view and not driving. I think the trip would be nicer if there was a destination where you could get off and walk around for a bit. The narrator sometimes talked over the train whistle but later told us he was working on getting that fixed as this was the first trip. All of the employees were very friendly and it was an enjoyable afternoon.

I booked the Bellows Falls to Rutland, Vt. trip over this past Columbus Day weekend two months in advance. The train was to leave the station at Bellows Fall at 8:30 a.m., but didn't end up leaving until almost 9:00 a.m.. Once we were traveling, we were told we would then make two additional stops in Chester and Ludlow to pick up additional passengers who were late for the departure from Bellows Falls. We spend an hour and a half in Rutland, Vt., only to eat lunch and get right back onto the train. On the ride back, we crawled back to Bellows Falls for the late afternoon arrival at 6:30 p.m.. My wife and I had a check-in reservation at a local B & B in Chester, Vt. over a half hour away, and we had no phone service during the trip home to contact the B & B on the ride back to tell the B & B we would be running late. The train ride was fantastic, but they need to state on the web site the train ride could be ten plus hours, and the departure/arrival times are estimated.

We decided that a train would be a great way to see some of the VT sights. The sights did not disappoint and the people along the way were friendly. I will say that it is hard to hear what the narrator is saying so sit close to the front and on the right side if possible. The train stops at this little organic garden....it's ok but not really worth getting off the train for.

Great train ride through the rolling hills of Vermont, especially in the Fall, during foliage time. Friendly, informative staff.

Loved the old style diner. Great food, staff and never a rush. Be sure to check it out to mingle with the locals.
