The home of Chief John Ross is a great place to visit and there are great stories to be told about the home. Unfortunately it's rarely opened to the public.

The house was moved from another location. Rossville, where the house is now located, was named after John Ross. Around 1837, Ross's Landing became Chattanooga and the Trail of Tears began there. Sad times for our area. This area native Americans were rounded up and marched to the Oklahoma territory. About a third of the people who began the march died along the way to Oklahoma. This was the chief of the Cherokee nation's house. It's located behind the Bi-Lo in Rossville on Chickamauga Ave / Hwy 27. Good, free visit for history buffs. I actually drew a picture of this very house in 1991 using only a pencil and paper (appears below). My grandmother was 100% Cherokee. Lots of history here!
