Thank you so much for your feedback, and we apologize for the less than perfect nature of your experience. We are always striving to create a more welcoming environment, complete with customer-service training for our front-line employees. Photographs (no flash) of objects that belong to us are always allowed without prior permission. Objects on loan usually and unfortunately come with restrictions on photography. We hope you’ll join us again soon and we appreciate your thoughtful review.

Thank you for your review of the museum and for highlighting the benefit of visiting often. With our changing temporary exhibitions, a periodic visitor will usually encounter something new. A recent expansion and renovation means we can also keep many objects from the permanent collection on display. Yes, it's a great place to come when the weather is too hot, too cold or too wet!

We appreciate your thoughtful review of the Georgia Museum of Art, and for pointing out that the exhibitions are always changing. We wish to remark on one item: our official parking area is the Performing and Visual Arts Center parking deck (PAC deck), and it is not always free. Evenings, weekends and when classes are not in session at UGA make parking much easier since we must adhere to UGA parking services' fee structure. Visitors can call for driving and parking assistance: 706-542-4662. Access by city or campus bus is convenient too, and campus buses are free. For info: http://www.transit.uga.edu. Many Athens hotels have shuttle services that will bring you to the museum.

Thank you for taking the time to point out so many features of our museum — an excellent introduction to what the museum offers. We should point out that the wonderful Ike & Jane Café is open Tuesday–Friday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., and it closes whenever UGA classes are not in session. Yes, locals should remember to use the museum to show off Athens!

Your comments are very welcome as you appreciate the museum from the standpoint of a local, but also see how the museum can be an attraction for visitors — the best of both worlds! Thank you for taking the time to share your insight. We hope your review will encourage others to visit this free museum.

We’re glad you liked the museum! It is the official state museum of art, and it is art for Georgia, not just art from Georgia. Come back in the months to come for jewelry, samurai warrior artifacts, Mexican political graphics, American photography, UGA MFA student work and other temporary exhibitions — alongside a sizable presentation from the permanent collection. Admission is free.

Thank you for reviewing the museum on TripAdvisor — we’re glad you enjoyed our high art! And it’s nice you mentioned our proximity to the newish location of the Lamar Dodd School of Art; a combo visit can be had if visiting during business hours Tue–Fri when both venues are open.

We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the museum — it often is a surprise to visitors once they discover the building, permanent collection and exhibitions — and we look forward to your return whenever you're in Athens! Our official parking area is the Performing Arts Center (PAC) parking deck, which is located at the rear of lot E11 off River Road, and it is only free during certain hours. At the museum we have free parking for handicapped visitors and patrons of the Museum Shop. Museum admission is always free, and parking at UGA surface lots nearby are free after 5 p.m. and on weekends (except during home football games). Parking details are provided at georgiamuseum.org.

We're thrilled that you had such a great experience at the Georgia Museum of Art and appreciate you sharing your reaction with a review! It's a shame that so many people pass by and don't come in, we're glad you did — and that you intend to return. With our changing temporary exhibitions, a visit every 3 months will help you see most everything.May we suggest that you sign up for our weekly email and/or follow us on Facebook or other social media to stay informed? And you might also wish to come for a Student Night, a free event for UGA students; the next one is February 13, 8–10:30 p.m. There is a Georgia Museum of Art Student Association page on Facebook. Our next big show, "Art Interrupted: Advancing American Art and the Politics of Cultural Diplomacy," will open on January 25. Please come check it out — and bring someone along! Thanks.

I love museums because there, no one asks you to buy anything. When they enrich your life that is even better. This is a lovely museum without being too large. Their collection is large. They always bring out interesting works. They keep your mind going while also relaxing it.

If you're touring Athens or UGA's campus, it is worth your time to pay a visit to the GMOA. There are two wings of art on the second floor, and an outdoor sculpture garden area. On the first floor there is a small gift shop and a nice area where you can sit down and have a coffee or light lunch/snack. The GMOA is always a good refuge from the heat as well!
