We arrived early for the show and the staff were all absolutely lovely - every single one of them was lovely and courteous and really helped make the night a good one.The lobby of the Plaza was stunning although the stairs to the toilets and bar area were very steep (however the toilets were lovely, clean and modern). The only minor criticism I have is that the seats seemed to lean down a bit too much at the front so the seat was on a forward slant which made it uncomfortable to sit in for a long show (my sister said her seat was the same - it's as though the seat needs to be stopped an inch or so higher). As for the show, it was the first time I've ever seen Hairspray but it was fabulous - all of the cast were amazing and the show was so full of colour and was fantastic.

Being two oldies, we relish the Thirties atmosphere and service, and the music being not too loud. However, the menu choices are getting a little tired, and a few different 'specials' would be attractive. At present, the menu is just too predictable.

I hadn't been in The Stockport Plaza since about 1966 when it was a cinema, (it was Tom Jones - the film not the singer) until about 3 years ago a Saturday lunch time free organ recital I was very impressed then, but even more impressed when I attended an afternoon matinee in June 2013 - the show was "We'll Meet Again" - Last year I returned for the same companies "Bless 'em All". And on both occasions really enjoyed the show (war time musical reviews). The charges for both were very reasonable, far less for three of us than one ticket for similar shows in Manchester. I might go again this year 2015 when "We'll Meet Again" returns (I think it's on Tues the 2nd of June)A great advantage of afternoon shows is that those who perhaps can't get out in the evening can see a show,The theatre is magnificent the acoustics are good too, I could hear everything clearly from near the back, just one little criticism the seats were a little uncomfortable, but I believe they have now all been replaced, so I'm hoping to return in June, and check them out, when the same company return with "We'll Meet again". I would recommend it to all - in fact last time a few of my friends joined me and also enjoyed themselves.I have several friends who work there as volunteers, this has nothing to do with my glowing review. All staff (volunteers) were very pleasant and polite even the one who asked me not to use my camera during the show. (which is fair enough)☺☺☺☺☺

I have visited this theatre a number of times, it is a beautiful theatre restored to it's former glory in artdeco style. The staff are always very welcoming and helpful. Most are volunteers. Can't wait to go back always a pleasure!!

Our visit to Stockport Plaza was something of an accident, as circumstances dictated that we were unable to see the show locally, and Stockport was the closest venue where we could get tickets. The theatre is beautifully restored, and is like being transported into the past. The organist rising from the 'pit' in front of the stage to play prior to the show and during the interval added to the atmosphere, and his performances were rapturously received. The staff are well dressed and polite, and our pre-show tea and cake was tasty and reasonably priced.I am so pleased that we made the journey and saw the show here, and I will certainly look for other shows at this venue.

I love the decor and atmosphere in The Plaza. I believe that the staff all volunteer and this commitment shines through. There is a great stage, there is variety of shows and events well worth looking up. It is centrally located and easily accessible by rail or bus. If you are visiting during the day, do make sure you visit the tea room. You will enjoy! The bar here is not the biggest and easily gets crowded. It is best to pre-order for the break if possible. I am sure you will like the venue. Enjoy!

It is amazing how the Plaza attracts polite decorous and entirely civilised patrons,The whole experience is one that is uplifting and wholesome. We had lunch in the Plaza Cafe, The food was Excellent, the service professional and polite, the cost very reasonable the deccor superb and the back ground music elegant and unobtrusive. I couldn,t reccomend the cafe more highly, and the staff are superb both in their manner and dress.Later that evening we returned to watch the film, and the experience was amazing, This was how the Cinema used to be when England was a civilised nation, The organ prelude and intermission was a delight the choise of films perfect, the audatorium thrilling, the whole experience was wonderful.I take my hat off to the people who maintain, run and manage the Plaza, it is an oasis of pure joy!

A great evening can be had here. Get in early to see the renovated 'deco' interior. I have seen several films and 'live' films of opera plus real shows, all of which have had me leaving with a smile on my face.If peckish during the day the food upstairs is fine and gives a taste of what a tea room must have been like originally.

The plaza cafe is a must. You are taken back in time as you are greeted by the manager who shows you to a table where you are waited on by delightful plazarettes . The food is excellent. Enjoy tea with your own strainer- takes me back to childhood. Afternoon tea is highly recommended. Grandmas and great grandmas will love this time warp. You can even persuade one of the volunteers on the door to show you the theatre if it is not in use. Many wonderful shows so check out the theatre too.

These tours operate at 11am on the last Monday of the month. The cost is £6 and the tour lasts about 1.5 hours. The tour guides are volunteers, whose knowledge of the history of the building is amazing. Their enthusiasm is infectious! They clearly love what they do and are passionate about preserving the theatre for future generations. On the tour you really get the chance to appreciate the architecture of the building and the beautiful Art Deco interior. In addition to going into the auditorium, you also go behind the stage, seeing the dressing rooms, and onto the stage itself. The tour also takes in the projection room right at the top of the theatre. The guides are full of fascinating facts and stories. It really is well worth a visit, and great value for money. The tea room which is open Mon-Sat serves nice light lunches and cream teas, reasonable prices. A great experience.

The plaza itself was lovely. No complaints about booking etc except we were not made aware that this was a charity production we read it was allegedly one of mad companys top comedys. In reality any local school could do a better job ,it was probably great for the performers, family and supporters who had low expectations and love in their hearts. Anyone else would have to be mad to waste an evening watching and occasionally hearing this. Especially to buy 5 tickets at fifteen pounds each. Now we understand the name.MAD theatre. Mad yes we were.Mad yes ripped off and disappointed .

What a superb production from the Mad Theatre Company at The Plaza which is a really nice venue. The cast were fantastic and there were some really funny moments. The first half of the show is really getting to know the characters and it builds with some whitty one liners. The 2nd half builds on this excellently and really takes off. The show itself was 5 stars for me, I give the Plaza 4 stars, as I did here some people say they stuggled to hear some of what was being said, so I think more microphones and better audio is required for those towards the back. But a great family night out.

Once again a fantastic experience from booking the tickets, easy online or go to Box Office to collecting tickets just before show from Box Office next door to entering theatre, finding seat and enjoying the whole experience. Only £1.25 booking fee which is much less than other theatres, tickets £5 each - absolute bargain. This theatre is restored beautifully, art deco style, immaculately clean and run by volunteers. It is a pleasure to look around at all the stained glass and art deco features and the organ which rises up for performance and then goes down with the organist waving goodbye - fantastic. The show was Carry On 8, showcasing all the fantastic work done by the youth and junior drama groups, a selection of songs from previous shows, wonderful dancers, costumes absolutely outstanding how many times those young people changed and were back out in minutes. There are some future budding stars in that group, the young lady who sang Over The Rainbow gave me goose pimples on my arms she was that good and the young lady who opened the show, sorry dont know her name, had red hair, another star for the future. Not to forget the lads, some outstanding performances, the one from Oliver stands out and all credit to every one of those children performing, some were only small, they put their heart and soul into the show. Well done Plaza for a wonderful, low cost, outstanding evening in a beautiful theatre. Roll on next show in March.
