Great place to visit, lovely walks along the canal or the sea. Come back to great tea and cakes at the tiptree tea house . Or the local pub for a lunch. . Will be going again in the summer.

Not much to dislike here, it's got something for all, good pubs, a superb tea room/restaurant with exceptional food,a nd the pubs aren't too bad either.

Been to the Basin many times over the years. There are long walks to be had next to the estuary which is tidal and some great scenery, especially for Essex which is challenged in the scenery stakes. It is good to walk along the paths talking and listening to the birds which can be quite noisy at times. There is also a canal to walk beside as well which has many boats upon it and I think some house boats. There is a free car park and two pubs which serve food and a tea rooms. Unfortunately there are no public toilets. The walking is flat and easy but maybe quite difficult for someone in a wheelchair due to the stony path and the muddy parts which can be a bit narrow at times. But for a few hours walking and tea drinking it is a gem of a place.

A hidden treasure, found by accident whilst exploring on a day out, free parking, a lovely walk along the river, with a Lock, and plenty of boats to look at. All this with a country pub included on the river front. Will definitely go back again just for a walk along the river.

Very good views across the estuary . Popular eatery with afternoon tea featuring Tiptree Jam. Can get very busy in the summertime but there are outside tables as well. Very clean, polite attentive staff. Chairs are a bit hard so you don't want to sit for too long.

We called in here initially to visit the Tiptree Jam Cafe (called The Lock), and we took the opportunity to have a look round the Basin. It was a cold day 9th January- but the light was amazing over the Lock and Canal Basin. The views out to see beyond the boats and the boats and barges moored alongside the lock were something different to see. I believe there must be a good walk alongside the canal as a footpath disappearing into wooded land was most alluring. We did have tea at Tiptrees. It was excellent. I was surprised how many people were just meandering around the Basin. A good afternoon out for fresh air and it needn't cost a penny.

This is where to go for a gentle stroll; either head to the sea wall or go in the other direction along the canal. The riverside pubs remain comfortable and free from the dominance of high street names. If you're looking for a Wetherspoons or a Costa (other brands are available) then head somewhere else and leave the good folk of the Basin alone!

As a nice event for my husband's Birthday, we had a lovely rivercruise with 4 more of the family, 2 of them children.

The Basin is beautiful for a walk around. You can sit and watch the boats go by and be entertained watching them on use the lock. There are two pubs and the lock tea rooms. The walk along the sea wall is lovely as is the walk along the canal. The car park is free which is a bonus. There are boat rides.

My first visit to the Basin but one that will be repeated. Car parking was free and there were plenty of parking places. There was much activity to watch on the estuary ant the area is a bit of a sun trap in the middle of the day. There are a few places where one could enjoy a pint or something to eat. I particularly enjoyed the walk over to Malden following the estuary and then back to the basin following the canal. I guess this area could get very busy/ crowded in the peak summer period.
