We stay near Loch Lomond for the peace and quiet and find Balloch perfect for shopping and restaurants should we want hem.Take a trip on the loch with Sweeneys - it was only an hour for a tenner, good commentary recording provided by Neil Oliver. Wrap up warm, it's f-f-f-freezing out there...

Balloch is an easy 48 minute train ride from Queen Street Station in Glasgow, and well worth the trip. Our first stop was at the Information Centre (this was our third trip to Scotland, and we learnt early on that Visitor Centres throughout this beautiful country are, without fail, staffed by lovely, friendly people who are passionate and full of information about their area, and always willing to help and chat). This centre was no exception. We were hoping to take a boat trip on Loch Lomond, and not only did they help us with that, but also gave up maps and directions by which we could catch a bus to Luss, a gorgeous village further along the Loch.A beautiful location, especially during October, not too many people about either at this time! Go and visit, you don't even need a car, and the pubs are warm and friendly with good pub grub and plenty of local beers to try.

There is lots to do in the local area, plenty of walks through Balloch country park, along the shore edge, much better as it was relatively out of season, although weather was excellent. Will go back, even into the winter months, as probably like the locals, so much better when it is quieter. Was pleased to see there was still cruise boats working, autumn colours are very impressive, is a year round location, but generally for the seasoned walker or boating enthusiast.

Right across the street from the train station, I visited twice to get directions and train information. NIce gift shop. Lots of maps and brochures. Very kind and extra helpful staff.

Visited the above 3 places today, and I must say that we had a thoroughly great time. The weather was glorious, which always helps. I must say that in all three place the cost of things was very reasonable, from food to ice cream. If other places in Scotland followed these examples, they would get more visitors. At Balloch a hot roll was £1.50, and the ice cream £1.20 for a large cone, if you have a few children these prices are quite manageable. I will no doubt return in the future for another visit. Well done The Trossach.

The car parking is ample and the railway station not too far away. The centre is well signposted and has a modern and welcoming appearance. It has a wide range of tourist items for sale and is well staffed. Part of the centre has been given over to a cafe and this has an outside area overlooking the loch.

Lots of interesting things to buy at a good price, including local biscuits, fudge, scarves, and notecards. The staff were very warm and helpful.

We always pop into an information centre wherever we're visiting to pick up leaflets on what to do and the staff at Balloch were lovely and friendly and very helpful. You can also get discounted tickets at the centre so well worth checking it out before you book anything.
