Stunning display of these unique catacombes under the Church of the Virgin Mary and Saint Ignatious. Recently renovated to the highest of standards, multi lingual information, fantastically displayed. Exceptional historical experience.

The newly renovated Catacombs under the Jesuit Church are fascinating. There are quite a few naturally mummified bodies (using a complex system of air ducts) from before the 18th Century. Day clothes and all! There is also an interesting exhibition describing the history and influence of the Jesuit Order. You can read about the famous Klatovy Virgin Mary painting which can been seen at the nearby Archdeacon Church of Virgin Mary Nativity.Unfortunately no photos are allowed inside.It is very cold inside, so take a jacket.Open all year, seven days a week.

Visiting the Catacombs was a wonderful experience. All the displays had an English language description and it was very well presented.The fossilised remains of the Nuns and Monks was incredible, not scary for young children as it was so well organised. 500 hundred years of another type of life.

When we visited Klatovy the catacombs were under renovation and closed to public. This subterranean crypt concealed under the Jesuit church was established during the church construction in 1770. Members of the order, as well as notable citizens, noblemen from the surroundings and other benefactors were buried there. Burying in the crypt was ended in 1783 with patent bythe emperor Joseph II's. Thanks to an elaborate system of air circulation were the bodies in oak coffins gradually mummified and conserved. The crypt can be visited via the entry on the right-hand side of the church.

В подземелье Иезуитского костела Девы Марии и Св.Игнатия (Divadelní 148) находится своеобразный мавзолей, где более 300 лет назад были захоронены богатые горожане г.Клатовы. В результате своеобразного микроклимата подвалов, тела мумифицировались, и сейчас выставлены к обозрению. Сам городок тоже очень интересен.

Abbiamo visitato in agosto le catacombe con l aspettativa di qualche spiegazione.Sicuramente i turisti italiani non sono tanti, ma basterebbe una spiegazione anche breve su un foglio da consegnare , visto che si paga un biglietto, invece se non si è documentati in precedenza non si riesce ad assaporare questa visita.

In den Katakomben von Klavotny waren einst mehr als 200 Tote bestattet. Durch ein ausgeklügeltes Lüftungssystem kam es bei den Verstorbenen zur natürlichen Mumifizierung. Auch wenn ein Großteil der Mumien zerfallen ist zeigen die noch vorhandenen rund drei Dutzend Leichen, die in Särgen mit Glasabdeckungen aufgebahrt sind, eine Menge. Ein Verband am Bein lässt auf schlimme Wunden schließen, Kleidung ist teilweise noch vorhanden. Aber nicht nur die Mumien sind interessant anzusehen, auch die in tschechisch,englisch und deutsch beschrifteten Exponate aus der Zeit reichen Wirkens der Jesuiten geben eine Einblick in eine religiöse, musische und wissenschaftliche Kultur im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert. Wer die Katakomben besuchen möchte sollte daher etwas Zeit und einen warmen Pullover mitbringen.
