The Chiesa di San Giorgio is truly magnificent perched on top of sweeping stairs it has fantastic views of Modica. The Boroque facade is simply stunning and the sundial is facinating.Don't miss it when in Modica.

This church features as the 'funeral' church in several episodes of Montalbano and you can see why. It is a beautiful and quite spectacular exterior, with a grand sweep of stairs up to it. It is in Modica Alta, so there is a climb, but very worth while.

Although I was almost "churched out" I stayed nearly an hour here - the views across the town, gardens and valley, as well as the lure of later coffee next door helped. But predominantly, the cathedral itself enthralled me - towering white stone, Baroque, light - filled. I was intrigued by the solar meridan line / almanac / sundial in mosaics across the transept (by chance a local explained its mutiple uses as a solar calendar). The legend of St. George and the dragon is beautifully shown in silver and paintings.Yes, yet more steps but worth it if one can manage them.

Must see. Pay special attention to sundial and moving sunspot on the floor, reflected from cupola’s round windows. The rise on the hill where Duomo is located is a bit exhausting, but you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the city and the combination of staircases and small gardens around the cathedral.

The church looks down on a lovely piazza with palm trees and a great view. The facade of the church is stunning made so by the cleaned stonework. Although it is not possible to go inside it is worth a visit for the lovely detail such as the bell tower and doorway and the statues.

This catehdral is simply stunning. The baroque facade and the long stairs are fascinating and the view from the top of the stair is superb.

The church was easy to find from the bottom of the village due to the large scale and outstanding façade. The inside was also beautiful with white based walls although green net was put up on the ceiling. The view from this church was also nice with many brown historic houses and hills behind the town. It was good to visit.

A bit of a workout to get up to this church but a lovely building and a tremendous view. Well worth the climb.

We went to a wedding at this beautiful Baroque church and loved it; the interior was more ornate than you would expect to see in an English cathedral but it fitted the Sicilian countryside beautifully. The situation of the cathedral, at the top of the town, is breathtaking too.

After what feels like a million steps, this is a beautiful church. The interior is simply breathtaking

The view from out side the church is very nice and the church itself is too. There are alot of interesting things to see inside the church.

After a loooong flight of stairs, rewarded with a nice facade of baroque church. Was late, and church was closed.

San Giorgio and its immediate surroundings are stunningly beautiful. The Baroque architecture and warm, Sicilian stone are a wonderful mix. Take a walk up or down the steps immediately below the church for the most dramatic impact.

The church stands tall above the city of Modica and you can get a view from afar and up close. Modica is part of the UNESCO and has many hidden treasures; San Giorgio is not hidden!

This is one you should see. The Cathedral of San Giorgio in Modica was completely rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake destroyed it - and of course everything in the town me those around it. This Cathedral is magnificent and you can assume there was a considerable collective undertaking, as the high level of architectural and artistic achievement attests.
