I'd definitely recommend getting to this site if you like to visit archaeological places. Easy to walk around and try to envisage what it must've been like, a bit like Ostia Antica (near Rome) if you've ever been there. Very exposed in the summer heat though so take water and cover up - it's scorching!

This is a very big archaeological site just outside the present day village of Ireon. Just one column stands to represent the remains of the Temple of Hera but the size of the foundations that can be traced along the ground gives you the best feeling of just how immense this temple would have been. A guide book is handy to help form an overall impression of the site. Well worth a visit.

If you are a little interested in history, join the excursion and learn more! It is very visiual and you will feel the relations with your ancestors!

Althought there are better temples in the world you should definitely pay a visit to this place. You should walk along the sacred way and see around. There is a fee for the entrance and ask for written small guidebook. Hesitate to go there when the season is very hot since it is an opened area.

Part of the guided tour by Thomson. Guide was very good but really not enough time there. All in all well worth visiting.

We had an excellent guide who gave us good information. It would have been good if we could have had a little longer to wander around on own.

A short taxi trip from Pythagorion you find this great archeological site. After visiting it, you should go to Pythagorion archeological museum to see the artifacts found, and models of "how it were".

We walked here from Pythagoriou along the beach - good walk but lovely with sea breeze. Small entry charge. Beautiful site with a lot of information about the Sacred Road which stretched from Pythagoriou - typically most of it under the runway now. Toilet & restaurant facilities available too.

There is not much to see in this place, it's just one collection of old stones you have seen in several places before.

Huge site, having a guide useful as signs not that informative, room with models in was useful. One remaining pillar was particularly iconic, don't forget your camera

There are so many archeological ruins near Pythagoriou but this was the only site where you paid to enter (closed on Monday). There was so much of it but it was not that impressive. The tea room was very good.

I'd hoped to see a bit of ancient Greek history here, like you see a lot in Rome. but the only thing is one big stone, a lot of smaller stones and that's it. and you have to pay for it too. Not worth the money.

easy to imagine walking the "sacred way" to the temple from Pythagoria as the site is so atmospheric. There is very little shade though so go early!

Very interesting. Site larger than expected. Well marked out. Informative signs. Can get very hot in summer months.

My partner and I walked the 7 kilometers from Pythogorio to Heraion, which took us 45 minutes (in considerable heat) - great if you like walking and are fairly strong, though I would recommend car or coach if you are not. Some might say there is not much to see, ruins-wise, and it can be disappointing, but I disagree. The site oozes history and a sense of the sacred, with the layout of the main Temple of Hera clearly intact, including the altar and, sadly, only one standing pillar now - there were over a hundred in its heyday and must have been a breath-taking sight. As well as the main temple, there is a smaller temple of Aphrodite, a well-preserved row of statues and other areas of interest. The stonework and carvings are beautiful to observe. When we were there, a house had been located and excavated, which had the most beautiful mosaic floor portraying dolphins either side of Poseidon's trident. There is an information hall and a holding place for various pieces and fragements excavated. There is also a well-kept public toilet and a small cafe providing very welcome cold/hot drinks. The entrance fee was €3 per person.
