Apx. a 15-minute drive south west of Egilsstaðir, lies a beautiful and unique forest in Iceland (which is mostly bare of trees).The forest looked beautiful despite the fact we visited on April, where nature was still in the process of overcoming the harsh winter conditions.The forest is located next to the beautiful Lagarfljót lake, and apx. a 10-minute drive from the Hengifoss waterfall track, which is also highly recommended.

A forest is a nice change of scenery, but as forests go there is nothing special about this one. You can get a good map of the paths in the hotels in the area.

The area is really beautiful and it is very nice to walk in the forest. I have to agree with other reviewers that if you are short on time you may skip it. But if you have some extra time and especially the weather is nice it is definitely worth vising. You can just walk for an hour or even less.

Very pretty area, lots of locals camping and enjoying the water and woodlands. We are trying to hit the highlights of Iceland along the Ring Road and if we had to do it again, we would have skipped this nature reserve to continue the long drive to Myvatn. Also, the Shell station that supposedly has free trail maps was closed when we stopped by around 10:00 AM.

This place is gorgeous in Autumn! Worth the drive from Egilsstadir and on the way to Hengifoss. Coming from a part of the world with lots of densely packed tall trees, after a few days in Iceland it was really nice to take a walk in the woods. Would recommend for anyone who is a fan of trees. The drive to the forest is lovely and along the Lagarfljót river, there's even a belief that there's a Loch-Ness style river monster in there. Look out!

Lots of nice walks and you might see the Lagarfjlótsormur in Lagarfljót at least look out for the sign.

Халлормсстатарскогур - крупнейший в Исландии лесной массив. Леса для Исландии редкость, поэтому все они охраняются государством. В лесу несколько треккинговых троп, мы выбрали одну из них, ориентируясь на длительность маршрута и следовали меткам. Наш цвет был синий. Очень много костяники. Растет прям вдоль дороги. А уж черники сколько - мамадарагая! Сначала собирали в рот, ели, ели, она не кончается, потом стали складывать в кан. Набрали до верху, потом испекли черничный пирог и протерли с сахаром. Было очень вкусно!Некоторые деревья помечены специальными столбиками, где написано название и год высадки. По пути попались "именные" деревья: Финляндия, Средняя Азия, Аляска и Норвегия. В целом неплохой вышел трекинг.
